Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

Feeling happy for others is what we're told is the right thing to do. Well, you wouldn't be here if it were that easy!

Realistically speaking, it's perfectly understandable for you to feel a little dejected when you see everyone having fun on their holidays while you're stuck at home, school or work.

Keep reading to find out five ways to deal with travel envy!

#1 Think about your past and future travels

When you find yourself comparing your current situation to someone else on their holiday, look back on your previous trips and the ones you'll have in the near future.

Browse through photos of your last holidays or read an entry from your travel journal. Doing this helps puts things into perspective. It reminds you that you were also once in the same position, posting about your travels and telling travel stories, and will be again in the future.

This is also a great way to remind yourself to be grateful for the travel opportunities you've had which will make you feel much better about your life on the whole!

#2 Remember that social media doesn't show the whole picture

Social media envy tends to be narrowed towards particular moments or aspects of someone's life. When we see pictures and videos of people having the time of their lives in a foreign land, we tend to go "I wish I could live your life!"

You'll think differently once you remind yourself that people tend to show the best parts of their lives on social media. Those happy, vibrant snaps and stories are just selected moments in their lives which are a mix of successes, failures, challenges, pain, joy, boredom etc., just like yours!

#3 Turn it into something positive

Jealously is not necessarily a negative thing. It has one good purpose: to tell you what you really want. Instead of trying to suppress your jealousy of other people's holidays, embrace it and try to turn it into feelings of inspiration and motivation!

Take those holiday IG snaps and stories as inspiration for your next travel destination. Get motivated to save up for the next trip, do your research and plan the itinerary.

#4 Plan fun things to do in Singapore

If you need instant gratification for your wanderlust or don't have the time or budget for a holiday, plan fun things to do in Singapore instead!

There are many things to do in our sunny island that will make you feel like you're on holiday. Enjoy a staycation at some gorgeous Airbnbs, have an infinity pool experience that won't break the bank, check out Christmas light-ups, cool bars and special occasion activities. There are also plenty of fun and free things to do in Singapore!

#5 Have a social media detox

If all that doesn't work, try taking a break from social media altogether! Not thinking about sharing your life online or seeing what others are doing can help you focus on living in the moment and appreciate on the things that you do have.

While social media is quite an inescapable part of our lives, you can still distance yourself from the online world by logging in only when necessary.
