This very student is Erlande Monte from Lianga National Comprehensive School Student in the Philippines.

In November 2019, his teacher Arcilyn Azarcon shared in a Facebook post that as she was collecting her students' notebooks, she was surprised to see Erlande writing on a banana leaf instead of a notebook!

It turns out that his family could not afford to buy him a notebook. His mother is not working while his father is supporting the family with his job as a road maintenance worker.

Erlande then used his wit and resourcefulness to make the most of the situation, using a banana leaf to take down notes in class. He even doodled on the banana leaf like any student would in their notebook!

His story went viral on Facebook with over 5000 shares and according to his teacher Arcilyn, people have started showing support and giving donations to him and his family.

Instead of complaining about our lives, we could take some time to feel grateful for how fortunate and privileged we are. Erlande is an example of how determination and quick thinking can lead you to great things no matter your circumstances!
