How could we resist digging into scrumptious Japanese fare, especially when they look and feel as special as the bento sets from Mikuni at Fairmont Singapore? These offerings are inspired by the annual Hina Matsuri, also known as Doll's Day or Girls' Day, a celebration of girls tracing back to the Edo period where families can wish for the health and prosperity of their young daughters by gifting them dolls and kimonos.
Mikuni's Executive Chef Nakao puts a new spin on dishes traditionally consumed during the festival, by focusing on fresh seafood and unique flavour combinations. From now till 31 March you can try these thoughtful creations for yourself, served in a gorgeous two-tier wooden box.

Bento Box
Diners are served the star of the show right off the bat, which of course, is the wooden bento box. This traditional-style wooden box opens to reveal two tiers, containing a range of small and beautiful dishes.

On the right side, we have light appetisers made of seasonal ingredients like steamed sea bream, bamboo shoots, and wakame. You'll find a medley of asparagus, zenmai, ikura, uni, and agodashi, served cold. There's also some fresh fatty tuna sashimi that just melts in your mouth. Under a colourful dome, you'll find a saucer of specially sourced shoyu for dipping your sashimi in.

Once you've inhaled all that, there's even more deliciousness in store in the left side compartment! A few pieces of Grilled Sawara Yuan Yaki, which have a light and savoury taste, as well as juicy Wagyu Yawata-Mai help to fill up the belly.
