Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

The Singapore EDITION, one of the newest additions to the Singapore hotel scene, has just opened Punch Room, the EDITION brand's signature bar concept. This swanky enclave is the first in Singapore to focus exclusively on punch, as its name suggests, serving punch-inspired afternoon tea along with an array of punches that nods to the spices and flavours of Southeast Asia.

Luxe & Eclectic Ambience at Punch Room

After a fairytale-worthy moment down a spiral staircase, diners will arrive in front of a stunning courtyard at the heart of the hotel. Through an inconspicuous door is the 30-seater Punch Room, which offers a stark contrast to the hotel thanks to its vivid colour palette of Yves Klein blue and teal.

With lined oak wall panels, a sculptural ceiling pendant, and fan-shaped stone mosaic floors, the interior is undeniably ritzy. It's rather reminiscent of those posh gentleman's clubs in England.

At the centre of Punch Room is a bronze bar decorated with Lalique-inspired crystal decanters filled with blue liquid.

Over on the other side, diners have a seat bathed in light and an unobstructed view of the gorgeous courtyard garden.

Punch Room Afternoon Tea

The indulgent afternoon tea affair is served by courses, as opposed to the traditional tiered stand. The savouries and sweets are inspired by the five ingredients that make up punch: spirits, spices, citrus, teas and sugar.

It begins with a Welcome Punch with options including the Merlion Punch. This invigorating concoction is made with local teh, plum and Macallan double cask 12-year-old scotch.

Next is the first savoury course, Poached Lobster, which is theatrically presented with a flavour blaster bubble. It has a unique combination of lobster, cream cheese, raspberry balsamic vinegar and blackcurrant & hibiscus tea jelly.

The afternoon tea does have some classics after all, like the Signature Finger Sandwiches with roast beef and Osetra caviar, as well as smoked salmon, lemon cream cheese and ocean trout roe.

Another staple done right is the Scone. These warm and buttery treats are paired with a delightfully tangy yuzu lemon curd and strawberry jam.

This is followed by the decadent Black Truffle Cheese Donut and Crispy Tart with tender duck foie gras and spiced spirit poached plum.

Before moving on to the sweets, a refreshing Frozen Punch will be served from an antique silver punchbowl sourced from London. This afternoon tea-exclusive pre-dessert is an iced rendition of Daeng's Punch, with Bacardi Ocho rum, Nikka coffee grain whisky, muyu vetiver, betel leaf, starfruit and assam tea.

The afternoon tea then moves on to the sweets presented on a mirrored stand, each flavoured with teas and spices found in punch. Every piece was light and sweet without being cloying and had pleasantly harmonious flavours. It's also a plus that they look so pretty!

There's the piquant Chamomile Mascarpone Kochi Yuzu Tart, rich and luscious Piedmont Hazelnut Milk Chocolate Pleyel and crisp & fuffy Pink Peppercorn Chocolate Éclair.

A particular favourite was the Matcha Green Tea Namelaka in a Black Tea Cone which had a fragrant and refined matcha cream in a crunchy cone with a subtle tea aroma.

The final course is the Kusu Island Punch Semifreddo. Inspired by the Kusu Island Punch, this dessert is made with pandan lemongrass nectar, sake Espuma, Roku Gin gelato and butterfly pea.

The Punch Room afternoon tea is priced at $75++ per person and is served on Fridays and Saturdays from 2 to 5pm, and comes with tea or coffee.
