Makeup sponges don’t often come in fanciful designs presumably because they get dirty easily, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun with some quirky packaging! Highly raved on social media, these face puffs in Singapore are creatively presented in packaging inspired by ice cream tubs, as well as mini pie boxes that look very similar to that of McDonald’s Apple Pie.

These food-inspired makeup puffs are by Chinese brand Yaozhi (妖制), and have been trending on Chinese social media platforms for how cute they are. The unanimous favourite from the mini pie range is the Pineapple Pie version. Other “flavours” include Egg, Red Bean, and Coffee Chocolate, with the colours of the makeup sponges matching their respective packaging accordingly.

Each mini pie box contains 3 sponges - 2 round and 1 teardrop-shaped. The former is suitable for a full face of foundation, while the latter is for more precise application in hard-to-reach corners such as the sides of the nose or the under-eye area.

Unlike the Beauty Blender that can only be used wet, or certain types of makeup puffs that are only suitable for dry application, these snack-themed sponges can be used both ways depending on the type of foundation you’re using and the desired outcome. They’re said to be soft and bouncy with a marshmallow-like texture, and won’t soak up your product.

What’s more, the puffs magically expand quite a bit when wet, which gives you a larger surface area to play with for a more efficient job done. The above photos show the sponges in their regular dry state on the let, and moistened on the right - it’s quite a substantial difference!

Alternatively, go for the ice cream version which comes in cute little tubs that make for convenient storage. These contain 2 puffs each (round and teardrop-shaped), in variants such as Coconut, Orange, Banana, and Blueberry.

You can get these face puffs from Yaozhi’s Tmall store on Taobao here; The mini pie face puffs start from CNY14.90 (~S$2.89) per set while the ice cream tub ones cost CNY23.90 (~S$4.64). If you’re unfamiliar with Taobao, you can also order them via these Shopee sellers:
