On November 8, director Dong Hyuk confirmed that talks are underway for the second season of Squid Game during an interview with Associated Press. "So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season, so I almost feel like you leave us no choice!" he said.

"It's in my head right now. I'm in the planning process currently," he continued. Dong Hyuk also shared that it's "too early to say" when and how Season 2 will take place. However, the director did promise that our beloved character, Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae), will be back to "do something for the world".

In his previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dong Hyuk revealed that if there was to be a second season (which there definitely is now), he will love to delve deeper into its storyline.

"I’d like to explore that storyline — what is going on between those two brothers? And then I could also go into the story of that recruiter in the suit who plays the game of ddakji with Gi Hun and gives him the card in the first episode. And, of course, we could go with Gi Hun’s story as he turns back, and explore more about how he’s going to navigate through his reckoning with the people who are designing the games," he said.
