Working from home away from your boss’ prying eyes can be fun, but with distractions from family members, noisy neighbours, and the endless temptation of flopping onto your bed, productivity can take a dip after a while. With limited spots due to social distancing, camping out at a cafe without getting chased out just isn’t an option anymore - but we’ve found a new spot that might just be your answer.

Mangawork has got their zen Japanese vibes down pat with wooden furnishing and sliding doors that look just like shoji screens. Instead of being open-concept like a lot of the other co-working spaces out there, this one comes with individual pods so you get to enjoy complete privacy and peace as you work. Or slack.

Each room comes with complimentary tablet usage with headphones and high-speed WiFi, so if you need a break - or are simply here just to relax in a “home away from home” sort of environment - feel free to stream your favourite shows for binge-watching. And of course, there are power sockets available should your devices need extra juice.

Pick from swivel chairs with good high-backed support, or slouch down on a beanbag chair or fold-out futon. Feel free to meditate or even take a nap if you’re feeling sleepy! Some of the rooms come with windows, which will provide some rest for tired eyes with a view of the street and bits of greenery.

There’s no food sold at Mangawork, but they do allow you to bring in your own food and drinks. Just make sure that you clean up after yourself once you’re done!

Of course, the one big draw that sets Mangawork apart from its competitors is the array of Japanese comic books and fashion magazines lining their shelves, which you can feel free to thumb through at no extra cost. These include popular names including but not limited to Sailor Moon, One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, Bleach, and many more in a mix of English and Chinese.

There are also local English titles such as Vogue, Tatler, Prestige, and L’Officiel. Mangawork is constantly updating their collection of reads, so if there’s a manga series that you like that isn’t available, express your interest and they might just bring it in in the future!
