Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

If you're looking to transform your BTO/HDB into a cosy, zen and minimalist Japanese-style home, you'll need the right furniture to get the look. Whether you're willing to shell out big bucks or going on a budget, we have you covered!

Here are eight stores, both online and brick-and-mortar, in Singapore where you can find Japanese-style furniture:

#1 atomi

atomi houses exclusive curated collections of hand-crafted furniture and lifestyle products that epitomise a comfortable lifestyle with a Japanese-style aesthetic.

They have an online store as well as a showroom at Mandarin Gallery. As expected of the postcode, this is one of the priciest options on the list.

#2 HOMMAGE

HOMMAGE is a local store that sources furniture from Japanese brands including Takano Mokkou that's pictured above. Compelling yet sedate, their furniture is made to last for generations.

With quality comes price, so expect to splurge at this store. One of their simple yet sophisticated designs is the Y Hope Sofa (3,740.88 - $5,393.10) by Nobuo Mori that has a soft design with gently curved armrests.

#3 NAMU

NAMU creates solid wood furniture that has a lovely mix of Japanese, Korean and Scandinavian styles.

Some of our favourite pieces are the Amaya Bed Frame ($$599$699) to create that cosy, low bed look and the simple yet striking Duo Side Table ($229).

#4 Nitori

The IKEA of Japan, Nitori, opened at COURTS Nojima at The Heereen back in 2022. It has everything you could possibly need to furnish your home like a Japanese person would. That includes compact and functional furniture with that charming clean aesthetic, customisable options, and on top of that, they come with reasonable price tags.

The CABNET ALNUS B80 LBR ($799) has a particularly distinctive Japanese home look with a mix of open shelving and translucent doors above and below. Another one to create a sense of airiness in a small space is the WARDROBE ALNUS2 80 LBR ($499) that's a semi open-type unit for clothes storage.

#5 MUJI

This one needs no introduction! Whether you're looking for interior design inspiration or want to treat yourself to aesthetically pleasing "empty vessels" as described by the brand, MUJI is the place to go.

#6 Comfort Furniture

Comfort Furniture offers affordable furniture in a variety of styles from industrial and modern luxe to Japandi, a fusion of two minimalist styles: Japanese and Scandinavian.

For example, the Zandy Dining Table ($229) is a petite Japandi-style dining table that's great for small homes. It seats a party of four comfortably and the matching bench and chairs will give the living room a stylish, streamlined look.

#7 HipVan

HipVan is known for their stylish, practical and affordable furniture. Although not marketed as Japanese-style furniture, many of their pieces have minimalist designs that would fit in seamlessly with a home that has Japanese interior design.

For example, Tessa 3 Seater Storage Sofa Bed ($549) has a modular silhouette reminiscent of tatami chairs and the Ellie Round Concrete Side Table ($299) features a fluted design that brings to mind the traditional shōji paired with a concrete table top for a brutalist, Japandi twist.

#8 Shopee

Shopee might be best known for small, everyday essentials, but it's also a treasure trove of stylish furniture that won't break the bank. With a bit of digging, you'll find sleek Japanese-inspired pieces like the Half Day Furniture Foldable Sofa Bed ($1,388.70) and the 3-Piece JINQUANJIA Sofa Set ($580.22 - $652.18).
