What’s surprising is that shortly after their wedding ceremony in America, the now 39-year-old Gillian Chung already admitted some regret in marrying Michael due to having known him for only 2 months, and was the first to bring up the idea of divorce.

According to him, she said, “I regret a little, I like you, but I don’t love you enough”.

She suddenly went cold and would avoid picking up his calls.

Friends of the couple have reportedly said that this was because Gillian was dissatisfied with Michael’s financial situation, as well as their sexual incompatibility. She would apparently avoid any sort of contact with him, to the point where they had not been intimate in at least a year.

Determined to make the marriage work, Michael repeatedly flew to his wife’s filming locations on his own expenses to spend time with her. For a period of time, the warmth in the relationship was rekindled and all was good.

At that time, the duo with a 9-year age gap had already signed a contract for a reality TV show in China, and were unable to back out. Luckily, the flame was kept alive and filming proceeded smoothly.

The relationship remained stable in 2019 post-filming, and Michael again flew to visit Gillian when she was filming her shows in Malaysia. Everything seemed fine during his visits - or so it seemed.

It was only later that she told him she no longer loved him, after thinking about the situation for a long time. The pair then inevitably filed for separation.

No further information detailing the relationship’s cracks have been revealed by either half of the ex-couple.  However, Michael has posted a heartfelt Instagram dedication to his ex-wife, thanking them for their time together.

Calling her the kindest, bravest, and most beautiful woman he has ever known, he professes that he would still choose to marry her if he could do it all over again. The heartbroken man ends off the post on a bittersweet note by inviting her to have soup with him when she next goes to Taipei.

Earlier on last year, Michael angrily dispelled gossip about him cheating on Gillian with a busty Instagram model, saying he would sue the person who started the rumours.
