The New Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System Has 5 Attachments For Versatile & Damage-Free Styling
Fellow straight-haired people, we've all wanted curly hair at times, right? Fortunately for us, hair technology has come a long way and there are now styling tools to achieve curls without frying our hair into oblivion. A highly raved example is the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler, but priced at $849, it's quite the splurge that not everyone can justify. Well, there's a new player on the market, SHARK Ninja, that created a nifty all-in-one tool to create curls and other styles without hair damage and at a more palatable price tag. Behold, the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System! It has finally launched in Singapore.

First debuted in 2022, this Shark FlexStyle system instantly went viral for its similarity to the Dyson Airwrap, but with a smaller price tag and additional features to boot.
The wand has four heat and three airflow settings along with a cool shot button. It comes with five attachments to curl, straighten, volumise, smoothen and dry all hair types.

The two Auto-wrap Curlers (clockwise & anti-clockwise directions) use Coanda Technology to suck in the hair such that it automatically wraps around the barrel. After holding it in place for 10 seconds, press the cool shot button for 10 seconds to set the curl, and it's done. There is a learning curve, but with a little practice, curling your hair will be a breeze. Those who have thin hair can expect to take about 10 minutes to curl their whole head of hair, and those blessed with a thick mane can get the job done in 15 to 20 minutes.
Each curler measures 5cm in length and 3.2cm in diameter. They have a fairly powerful grip when using small sections of hair and create gorgeous, bouncy curls. Even on the highest heat setting, the tool never gets too hot, which is fine news for those who like styling with heat regularly or have fragile hair.
That said, expect a tradeoff for the lack of heat damage. Your curls are unlikely to stay springy for long because of the low heat level. You can extend its curly lifetime with mousse or hairspray, and by curling your hair when it's slightly damp.

Next is the Styling Concentrator with a rotatable nozzle so you can use the styler as a hair dryer. And here's something cool about the wand that amazed me: it has a hinge lock that can be rotated to transform into a traditional hair dryer shape! It seems minute, but this genius and unique feature is much appreciated as the wand's bent form is much easier on the arms.

The bent wand comes in handy for other attachments too, such as the curlers when working on hair at the back of the head.
Another attachment that'll get plenty of daily use is the Oval Brush which has smoothening bristles on the edges and detangling bristles in the middle. Designed to work in a simple combing motion, this noob-friendly brush helps create that smooth and voluminous look that pro hairdressers do with a brush and hair dryer.
Made with boar and nylon bristles, the Paddle Brush also helps create professional results with little effort. Combined with a powerful airflow, it straightens the hair while adding a lovely shine.

Finally is the Curl-Defining Diffuser which will help those with naturally textured hair or a perm to maintain the shape of their curls or waves. Those with straight hair can get some use out of this diffuser too; It can create a natural, air-dried look in record time. The prongs are retractable which makes it suitable for both short and long hair.
Retailing at SGD499, the Shark FlexStyle Air Styling & Drying System is still fairly pricey, but it's a worthy investment. It can create glamorous curls without heat damage in just 10 to 20 minutes, and other hairstyles in even less time, all with no skill required. It replaces all other tools and brushes, and can be used every day and by everyone in your household with any hair type, even those who never style their hair!
