Aesthetic Rooftop Mookata Joint In BKK Has Minimalist Cafe Vibes, Live Music & Affordable Prices
A trip to Bangkok probably means a search for cheap and good mookata, aka Thai-style BBQ. You can’t go wrong with any random street stall, but the trade-off for this would of course be a certain level of comfort and cleanliness - coupled with the unrelenting BKK heat and the heat from the mookata stove itself.
But Everyday Moo Krata & Cafe in Bangkok’s Silom area is a breath of fresh air. Boasting a clean, minimalist cafe-like aesthetic, this new multi-storey mookata joint has pocket-friendly prices and live music, making it a great place to chill out after a long day of shopping. In fact, it’s a 3-in-1 establishment that also doubles up as a brunch cafe and bar.
P.S.: We bet you'll also love this gorgeous vintage sightseeing train from Singapore to Bangkok with private cabins, meals, and afternoon tea included.

Everyday Moo Krata & Cafe is housed in a white standalone building that looks like one of those Bali cafes. Minimally decorated with wooden furniture, dried plants, and tall cacti, it already gives off calming vibes from the outside, well before you step in.

The first floor of the space is home to the cafe, which is open from 9am to 7pm. On the menu are hearty brunch dishes such as the classic Big Breakfast (THB320, ~S$12.40), small bakes like Apple New York Cheese Cake and Earl Grey Cake, and wholesome smoothie bowls topped with granola and fresh fruits. There are also Asian fusion bites like Fried Shrimp Wontons and Spaghetti Kee Mao with Shrimp (THB195, ~S$7.55).

From 5pm onwards, the same area comes to life even more with the opening of the cocktail bar, where a live band starts playing from 9pm. In place of the band on Friday are DJ nights.

The second and third floors are where you’ll get to have your mookata feast. The former is divided into two zones - a breezy al fresco deck where a live music will play from 7pm, and an indoor portion that offers a little more peace and privacy.

Not to worry if it starts raining, because there's a hidden tent that can be extended over the al fresco portion in the event of inclement weather.

We were drawn to the al fresco zone, but craving a quieter environment after a long day, we found it a tad too close to where the band was playing. As such, we headed up to the third level, which offers a similar outdoor setting without being right in the thick of the action.

Mookata is served here from 3pm till late, but we would recommend heading here after sundown for your Thai barbecued meat fix, as that’s when the hanging bulb lights get switched on and the weather isn’t so hot.

You’d expect a place like this to charge premium prices, but that isn’t the case. A small Thai-Style Pork BBQ Set for 1 to 2 persons with vegetables included costs just THB399 (~S$15.48), while the medium version costs THB499 (~S$19.37). You can also add on from their list of a la carte ingredients, from Pork Belly (THB99, ~S$99) to Shrimp (THB120, ~S$4.66) and Garlic Fried Rice (THB 30, ~S$1.16).

Although we wished that there was a greater variety of dipping sauces available, we were still satisfied with the well-marinated meat and friendly service, where the staff were always proactive in checking if we needed top-ups despite the busyness of it being full house.
While some may say we missed out on that “authentic” streetside mookata experience, we creatures of comfort are thanking our lucky stars that we chanced upon this place. Solid Thai BBQ with a modern ambience - who says the two are mutually exclusive?
