Having eczema or very dry, sensitive and itchy skin can feel like a never-ending battle. Skincare products may offer a fleeting moment of relief, but then it quickly goes right back to scratching and that tight feeling or even stinging.

If you’ve gone through bottles and tubs of skincare products but didn’t find a real solution, you might find some relief in the new Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid Replenishing Balm. Instead of surface-level solutions, this balm gets right to the source, targeting microbiome imbalances to relieve extreme dryness and itching. We found 30 ladies looking for that relief, and they tested this new balm to find out if it’s the solution for their skin.

What’s The Hype Around This New Balm?

The Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid Replenishing Balm ($69.90, 400ml) is made for eczema-prone skin as well as itchy, irritated, very dry and sensitive skin. The formula provides an instant soothing effect that lasts up to six months, and that’s thanks to a new combination of advanced active ingredients:

  • I-MODULIA®: It targets microbiome imbalances to neutralise the source of dry spells and intense itching.
  • LIPID:B2: A patented, fatty acid-rich complex that replenishes ceramides and boosts their production to strengthen the skin barrier.

For skin that needs extra care, the balm delivers immediate and long-lasting comfort1,2. Its triple efficacy helps provide immediate relief, reduce the risk of flare-ups and soothe itchiness, while delivering 48-hour hydration and nourishment3

The balm is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic and suitable for the most sensitive skin and skin weakened by specific oncological or dermatological treatments. It’s extra gentle and can be used during pregnancy, and even on kids and infants.

My Thoughts

Considering its intense moisturising effect, I was expecting a thick, occlusive texture, but the XeraCalm Balm is actually very light and spreads easily on the skin with little friction. It sinks into the skin like a dream and doesn’t leave a trace of stickiness or heaviness. And yet, it’s deeply hydrating! My calves tend to get that dry, scaly look, but after applying the balm, my skin still looked plump and felt smooth and soft at the end of the day. The heat rash around my thighs was also noticeably less itchy and red.

I love the packaging too! The pump dispenser on the sleek bottle keeps the product sterile (no fingers in a tub situation) which makes it hygienic to share with my mum who also has dry, sensitive skin. For the smoothest application, I spread the balm on the hands first before applying it on my body with the entire palm in wide, gentle movements.

But don’t just take my word for it! We gathered 30 GirlStyle readers with skin struggles to test the XeraCalm Balm too.

Tried & Tested by 30 Reviewers

30 ladies with eczema, itchiness, severe dryness or sensitivity used the Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid Replenishing Balm consistently for seven consecutive days. Here are the findings:

  • 89% suffering from eczema found relief from the symptoms.
  • 90% of those with itchiness felt that their skin was soothed.
  • 97% of participants with severe skin dryness reported that the balm provided long-lasting hydration.

We know what you’re thinking: “pics, or it didn’t happen!” We thought the same, so here are some of their reviews* and before & after photos:

Before applying the balm, the participants prepped their skin by cleansing with the Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid Replenishing Cleansing Oil. This gentle soap-free cleanser is also made for very dry, eczema-prone skin. This balm + cleansing oil duo will provide the best results for soothing and repairing weakened skin.

Thinking about the potential oily after-feel? That won’t be an issue. It has the nourishing texture of an oil, but surprisingly leaves a refreshing feeling with zero oily residue. 90% of reviewers felt that the cleansing oil left no greasy feeling, and 90% of them felt their skin was more hydrated.

If nothing has quite worked the way you hoped for your skin woes, this new balm might finally bring some real relief. Shop the Avène XeraCalm A.D. Lipid Replenishing Balm and Cleansing Oil at Guardian, Watsons, Unity, and Official Avène Stores on Shopee Mall and LazMall.
