Curiouser And Curiouser: There's A New Alice In Wonderland-Themed Afternoon Tea In Fort Canning Park
If you're a sucker for themed dining and love Alice in Wonderland, there's a new afternoon tea that deserves a spot on your calendar: Alice in the Garden City Afternoon Tea at METT Singapore.
Nestled in Fort Canning Park, the luxury hotel is set in a palatial colonial-style building. The afternoon tea is served in the Canning Bar & Lounge, which is just as plush. The atmosphere has a cosy, calming vibe and design details that are in perfect harmony with the surrounding greenery, such as botanical motifs on the armchairs and statement-making plants.

This organic yet modern setting might be why the afternoon tea is themed around 'Alice in the Garden City'.

Each set comes with four savouries, four sweets, two scones, tea or coffee, and an ending cooler. Every morsel is inspired by Alice and the other iconic characters of Alice in Wonderland, featuring local flavours, too-cute-to-eat themed desserts, and whimsical presentation.

Start with The Mad Hatter's Otah Sandwich which has soft milk bread holding rich, silky smooth otah mousse wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber that gives it a refreshing punch.

Next, there's a tangy Through the Garden Tartlet that has diced tomatoes dotted with basil cream and olive soil, and Coronation Chicken Floss Bun, a comforting classic done right.

Save the best for last! In this instance, it's the Build-Your-Own Chilli Crab Toast. It has super crunchy crostino paired with a spicy and savoury mud crab sauce packed with crab meat.

On to the desserts, there's the gorgeous Midnight Chocolate. Inspired by the Queen of Hearts, it's decorated with tiny playing card-shaped chocolate. The tart itself is delicious too, with an indulgent combination of crunchy and mousse textures, as well as rich chocolate, black sesame praline, and sweet Milo crumbs.

Another one that's almost too pretty to destroy (via eating) is the Hearts Bandung. This "playing card" has a white chocolate and hazelnut base, topped with a heart-shaped chocolate bonbon with a surprise bandung centre.

The afternoon tea also comes with a book, which is actually the next course of sweets. Open it and you'll find a buttery Tea Party Shortbread with lemon zest and an Earl Grey & bergamot Pocket Watch Macaron with a pretty glittery "watch" surface.

Nearing the end of the afternoon tea, a playfully named Drink Me beverage will be served. It's a bright and cooling concoction made of chrysanthemum, calamansi and mint.

Of course, the afternoon tea comes with staples including Vanilla Scones served with clotted cream, kaya preserve, and rosella strawberry jam as well as a selection of artisanal Haflong teas and freshly brewed Lavazza coffee.
The hotel is best accessed by car or taxi; otherwise, there are colonial-style staircase photo ops to enjoy if you travel on foot!
