It’s already been proven that mental stress can take a toll on our bodies and compromise our physical health; Take, for example, NOC’s Nina Tan going bald due to anxiety. When your mind is in a less-than-stellar state, you run the risk of ailments like body aches, fatigue, gut issues, and in more serious cases, heart issues.

All seemed fine and dandy when Divian Nair recently celebrated his 35th birthday on 23 March 2022, surrounded with love from his family, friends, and colleagues. But barely 2 weeks after, he found himself right in the middle of a health scare that was first suspected to be a stroke.

On Monday, 4 April 2022, he suffered a major migraine attack which caused partial paralysis on one side of his body, and resulted in half his face drooping. His wife Rachel, who thankfully happened to be with him at the time, called for an ambulance and got him rushed off to Singapore General Hospital, where 2 CT scans were run to check for clots or bleeding in his brain. He was then placed in a high dependency ward, and went through an additional MRI scan.

Luckily, the tests came back clean, and while they showed no indication of a stroke, the doctors couldn’t fully rule that possibility out. According to Divian, it was “most likely a major migraine caused by severe stress and fatigue that resulted in symptoms mimicking a stroke”.

Fans needn’t worry too much, for Divian is already feeling much better and is making good recovery.

On behalf of himself and his wife, Divian thanks loved ones who sent well-wishes, flowers, and even turned up at the hospital despite knowing that only his wife could be in the ward. He also expresses his appreciation for his colleagues for keeping the show going at work, as well as the healthcare workers and paramedics at SGH for keeping him safe and aiding in his recovery.

Divian muses, “I’ve been stressed out with some rather large issues at work for the last few months but it’s time to slow down and gather my senses. As clichéd as it sounds, knowing I’ve worried the people closest to me has made me want to reset my priorities.”

He acknowledges that this was his body's way of telling him to stop, and says he’ll be taking a break from work. Thanking fans for being patient, he promises to return “fully charged”.

“For now I’m excited to try this thing people call sleep or something.” he jokes.
