Singapore Baker Makes Cute Japanese-Style Deco Milk Buns & Pull-Apart Bread At Affordable Prices
There’s just something about Japanese confections that always wins our hearts. Quality ingredients aside, it’s probably largely due to how everything is always prepared with great care, often with pleasing presentation. Even bread gets a level up, being transformed from the regular sort to cutesy deco buns that often resemble cartoon characters.
You don’t have to search far and wide for these kawaii bakes, for we just chanced upon Cookie Dokie, a small business in Singapore that creates Japanese-style deco milk buns and pull-apart bread.

Cookie Dokie first started out doing hand-decorated sugar cookies, but eventually branched out to full cakes, deco roll cakes, and our favourite of the lot - character-themed pull-apart buns. This is a popular home baking trend that was first started by the Japanese.

The designs made by this home-based bakery very much resemble their original Japanese counterparts, and these often involve animals like bears. We especially love the sweet colour palette of their Valentine’s edition, involving bears adorned with flowers and hearts, nestled among pink strawberries.

Classic cartoon favourites also make an appearance, including Pokemon like Pikachu, Eevee, and Ditto, as well as Miffy and Winnie-the-Pooh and friends. It’s crazy to think that all the details such as the characters’ facial features, ears, and accessories were carefully made by hand. Working with so many different colours is probably pretty time-consuming as well!

If you’re keen on ordering something to give away to friends, you can opt for the bear-shaped milk buns that come packed together in a box as 6 individual pieces.

These aren’t plain buns that merely look good with nothing more to them; You get to pick up to 2 out of 3 creamy fillings, namely chocolate, cheese, and peanut butter.

As everything is made fresh to order, it might be possible to ask for design customisation, depending on how doable your request is. Additional charges may or may not apply.
Based on Cookie Dokie’s current listings, a standard tray of pull-apart milk buns costs $20, while a set of bear-shaped milk buns costs $25. This is still pretty reasonable considering how well-made everything is - and how deco-pan is quite a rarity in Singapore.

Granted, you can get regular pull-apart buns at neighbourhood bakeries for $5 or less, but think of it this way: A tray of these is waaay more adorable, and still cheaper than a whole birthday cake.
