Rebecca Lim’s New Husband: 12 Things We Know About Matthew Webster Despite His Low-Profile Status
It was all over the news last year - local actress Rebecca Lim said “yes” to her boyfriend (now husband) Matthew Webster. Wait, Rebecca Lim is...attached?! was a common sentiment for many at that time. Until the happy occasion was announced, no one even knew that she had been dating anyone - not since rumours of her being with fellow Mediacorp star Ian Fang dissolved with news of a sexting scandal involving Carrie Wong.
Now that she’s newly married, many are curious about the mysterious man who’s now her partner for life. Here are 12 things we know about Matthew Webster, Rebecca Lim’s husband.
P.S.: Ex-NOC talent Samantha Tan also recently got married - check out our article on her wedding and the hilarious shenanigans at her reception!
#1: He met her at a mutual friend’s gathering and proposed after less than a year of dating

It all happened rather quickly: Rebecca and Matthew were first introduced to each other at a party organised by mutual friend Shaun Lee (Rebecca's makeup artist), hit it off right at the start, and the rest was history. Apparently, they laid their cards out in a straightforward manner and approached the whole situation with serious commitment in mind, provided that things worked out.
Luckily, they did, and he popped the question at a friend’s swanky art gallery at Raffles Hotel after just less than a year of dating. Fast game.
#2: He’s half ang moh, half Chinese

The name Matthew Webster is already an obvious indicator of his Western descent, but looking at his photos, you can also kind of tell that he's not fully White based on his features. Rebecca has confirmed that he is of mixed parentage, having grown up locally with a Singaporean Chinese mother and English father.
#3: Rock music from the 80’s is his jam
One interesting nugget of information Rebecca was willing to divulge about her partner earlier on was that good ol’ ‘80’s music is his jam. Specifically, he's into rock classics - think Bryan Adams, AC/DC, Heart, Don Henley, and the like.
#4: Witness his electric guitar, bass, & drumming talents on Instagram
Matthew isn't just an 80's rock music enthusiast - he's also a multi-talented musician who can bust out his favourite tunes on the electric guitar, bass, and drums. Other than a row of at least 5 Fender guitars hung up on his wall, he also has an electric drum kit, which he records videos of himself playing. He even "duets" with himself by playing the accompaniment of the same song on different instruments, and stitching the various clips together. This guy might as well be a one-man band! Check out his mad skills on his Instagram page, @mjwguitar.
#5: There's a whole Instagram account dedicated to his Porsches

It looks like Rebecca married a pretty loaded bloke, for Matthew has an entire secondary Instagram account (@911_sg) dedicated solely to his Porsches. Yes, Porches, in plural form - dude has more than one of the German luxury car. He takes them on spins around the city and snaps photos of them against the backdrop of scenic places in Singapore, from nature spots to heritage buildings and swanky skyscrapers.
#6: Rebecca and him are of the same age
No brow-raising age gaps spanning more than a decade a la Yan Kay Kay and Brandon Loh or Ryan Tan and Cherylene Chan here. 35-year-old Rebecca revealed that she and her beau both share the Tiger as their Chinese zodiac sign, since they were born in 1986.
#7: As a dog lover, he has 3 furkids of his own

It’s no secret that Rebecca is a fan of animals. She once owned a Golden Retriever named Ruffles, and you’ll occasionally see photos of her posing with various friends’ pets throughout her Instagram feed. It’s just as well, then, that her husband Matthew is a dog-lover himself, with 3 furkids of his own. We stan an animal-loving couple!

You’ve probably already guessed that Rebecca’s husband not a fellow Mediacorp actor, seeing as he’s been keeping himself well out of the limelight. Instead, he works in corporate brand management for a large local company, where he’s quite far up the ranks as an Assistant Vice President. Which brings us to the next point...
#9: Clueless about the entertainment scene, he had no idea that Rebecca was a celebrity

Not only is this mystery man not in the local entertainment scene, he was also adorably clueless about it - to the point where he had zero idea that she was a celebrity at first. He even had to look her up on Wikipedia in order to confirm the fact!
Turns out, his family and friend circles are also not the most attuned to the happenings within Singapore’s showbiz landscape. He has, however, since started watching her shows - as how a supportive partner would.
In the earlier days of their relationship, not a single one of Rebecca’s colleagues or industry mates had met the guy. “I just wanted this relationship to be not so scrutinised and just evolve as naturally as it can.”
#10. He's a family-oriented person and was immediately well-liked by her kin

One of the qualities that made Rebecca extra sure of her partner is the fact that he’s very much a family guy. As a family-oriented individual herself, seeing Matthew behave in a filial manner - not just towards his family but hers as well - really won her over. It certainly helped that he was quite immediately well-liked by her loved ones.
His honesty, maturity, and down-to-earth demeanour are other traits she loves about him. Aww.
#11: He’s apparently not a “typical romantic guy”

Rebecca claims that she wouldn’t call her husband “a typical romantic guy”. This is surprising, judging from the elaborate styled proposal set-up full of balloons and massive marquee lights spelling “MARRY ME”.
The duo are said to usually do things low-key, and don’t often dress up in fancy togs when hanging out or going out for dinner. She said that the grand spectacle was “not exactly out-of-character, but unexpected”.
#12: Speaking Chinese is a struggle for him, but he tries anyway for Rebecca’s grandma
According to Rebecca, Matthew is “not good [at] Mandarin at all” despite being half-Chinese. Yet, he tries his best to string coherent sentences in Mandarin anyway, for the sole purpose of connecting with Rebecca’s grandmother - a person who’s very dear to her.
“Seeing him make the effort to communicate with my grandma, and the way he treats my family, to me, is a realistic romance that I would like, as opposed to big fanfares,” she shares.
