Mark Lee's Youngest Daughter Diagnosed With Kidney Problem Due To Rare Autoimmune Disease
A Facebook account called '紫菡公主加油 Cheers for Calynn Lee' was set up yesterday evening by Mark Lee's wife Catherine Ng, revealing their 5-year-old daughter's rare kidney condition caused by an autoimmune disease.
In the page's first post, Catherine shared:
After a long debate with my husband, we finally decided to share the news of our daughter's condition with everyone.
Yes, she's sick :(
Before, my husband wanted to keep her condition low profile as he didn't want more pressure on our family but I felt that what we - especially our daughter - need right now is support.
We want to raise awareness for this condition that our daughter has been diagnosed with and hope that the little children who are suffering like our dear Calynn know that they are not alone; we are all here to support one another.
Calynn is suffering from Glomerulonephritis, a rare condition where her autoimmune system would attack healthy cells in her body by mistake, specifically her kidneys; a condition very similar to Lupus, which we know is dangerous.
When we first found out, we didn't understand what it was and as parents, we felt lost. This rare condition sounds complicated and we've never heard of it either. So if there's anyone out there who have battled with this illness, please leave us a message and advise us on what to do. As Calynn's parents, we want to learn more about it and find out the best ways to help our child fight this illness.
She started her first treatment last week and we hope that we'll see improvements with subsequent treatments.
Calynn is a brave child! No matter how many needles were injected into her, she's never cried- only once, when the doctor inserted it wrongly~ So everyone, please root for our dear Calynn! Thank you!
In the public post, Catherine wrote that Calynn is a brave girl who's never cried no matter how many needles were injected into her except for once, when her doctor injected the wrong part~
Mark and Catherine first found out about Calynn's condition in May when her fever hit as high as 40 degrees. After the trip to the doctor, they learned that her kidney has been infected after detecting an unusual amount of white blood cells in her urine.
Calynn has to visit the hospital thrice a month and have since stopped attending school.
“She does not cry often; she isn't sure what exactly she's down with… to be honest, she's very brave,” - Mark.
