10 Things To Know Before Watching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie - Infinity Castle
It's official: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie - Infinity Castle is coming to screens islandwide in just two short days. The film is probably the most highly anticipated anime movie release of 2025, and its premiere screening at Shaw Theatres Lido on Aug 11 was even graced by Takahiro Sakurai, the Japanese voice actor of the Water Hashira, Tomioka Giyu!

As the grand finale of the Demon Slayer series (for non-fans, think of this as the equivalent of Avengers: Endgame), Infinity Castle has some major shoes to fill — and after catching the film for ourselves, we can safely say that anime studio Ufotable has once again outdone themselves.
Not only were we left on the edge of our seats the entire way, everything from the character arcs to soundtrack and artistic direction to voice acting were absolutely stunning.
Can't wait to catch the film for yourself? Well, whether you're a longtime enjoyer of the series or completely new to the franchise, hold your horses!
Before you step into the mesmerising world of Infinity Castle, here are 10 things you absolutely should know before catching the movie to fully maximise your movie-watching experience, minus any spoilers. (These will still contain spoilers from the earlier installments, up till the end of Season 4 - Hashira Training Arc, so read at your own risk!)
1. Infinity Castle is the first of three films

Yes, it's true! To the shock and surprise of quite a few early moviegoers, Infinity Castle does not conclude the entire final arc on its own. While the movie title does not specify that it is 'Part One', it's actually the first of three films, with Part 2 reportedly scheduled for release in 2027 and a planned Part 3 that is rumoured to be released around 2029-2031.
2. The battle is already in full swing at the start of Infinity Castle

If you're planning to catch Infinity Castle as a standalone film without any knowledge of the anime or manga series — don't. There's absolutely no time to play catchup and almost no introductions or exposition will be provided. The action is dialled to a ten right at the outset, with major battles and character deaths happening left and right, and many references to events from previous parts of the series. And yes, this is a sign for you to rewatch the previous season!
3. The Demon Slayers are coming off a major loss

Right before the start of Infinity Castle, the frail and sickly leader of the Demon Slayer Corps Kagaya Ubuyashiki had come up with a plan to defeat Muzan. When Muzan came to his estate to murder him on his sickbed, Ubuyashiki played an uno-reverse, ambushing and momentarily wounding the demon with a huge explosion that instantly kills himself and his family.
This sacrifice, followed by the immediate summoning of the Hashiras to the scene, is meant to trap Muzan at the scene until the sun rises, which will finish him off once and for all. However, the plan fails as the demon manages to draw everyone into the Infinity Castle, where the Upper Moons now stand between them and their goal of taking Muzan's head.
4. Tamayo and Yushiro are demons who have sided with mankind in the quest to kill Muzan

Not all demons are on the side of evil, and Tamayo and Yushiro are two key examples. A skilled doctor and friend of Tanjiro, Tamayo harbours a powerful hatred for Muzan — he tricked her into undergoing the transformation into a demon, leading to the accidental murder of her own husband and children.
She plays a huge part in taking down Muzan, by trapping him using her blood demon art and delaying his healing process. Yushiro, a terminally ill patient of Tamayo's who was turned into a demon without the use of Muzan's blood, also assists in the battle as a combat medic.
5. Killing Muzan will likely vanquish all other demons too

Since almost every existing demon is created using the power of Muzan's blood, successfully killing Muzan will also cause all demons under his control to perish. This excludes demons like Tamayo and Nezuko, who have broken away from his curse on their own, as well as demons like Yushiro, who were created without Muzan's blood and consent.
Toppling their 'King' would immediately end the battle against demons in the favour of humankind, so assassinating Muzan will be at the top of every slayer's priority list during Infinity Castle.
6. Muzan's ultimate goal is to take Nezuko's ability to withstand sunlight for himself
One year ago today, Nezuko conquered the sun for the first time, and Ufotable cooked up this masterpiece 🤩 :

It has been a hot minute since we last saw Nezuko, especially since the bulk of Season 4 was focused on intensive training with the Hashiras to prepare for the final fight against Muzan. But the significance of Nezuko's immunity to sunlight has not faded, since this is, and has been for centuries, Muzan's one known physical weakness.
7. The Hashiras will have to take on the Upper Moons in one-to-one battles

Besides the show's Big Bad, the Infinity Castle is the home turf of Muzan's Upper Moons. The anxiety-inducing lineup includes a whopping five highly powered demons to get through before Muzan is up for grabs, and only seven Hashiras (+ Tanjiro and his companions) to go around! Girl math suggests that the majority of these battles will be very close and desperate ones, with close to no backup when things eventually go haywire.
Upper Moon Rank |
Name | Status | Known Powers / Abilities |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Kokushibo | Alive. | Mostly unknown. Master swordsman; Moon Breathing derived from Sun techniques; superhuman speed, strength, regeneration. |
2 | Doma | Alive. | Unknown. |
3 | Akaza | Unfortunately, alive. | Martial arts BDA, shockwaves, enhanced speed/regeneration, strategic combat awareness. |
4 (original) | Hantengu | Dead. Killed during Swordsmith Village Arc (just before Infinity Castle): Tanjiro decapitated him after fighting his emotional clones. | Creates emotion-based clones (Sekido, Karaku, Aizetsu, Urogi, Zohakuten, Urami); extremely hard to track and kill. |
5 (original) | Gyokko | Dead. Defeated in Swordsmith Village Arc by Mist Hashira Muichiro, who decapitated him after activating his Demon Slayer Mark. | Vase-based Blood Demon Art: summons aquatic creatures, shapeshifting and regeneration; grotesque artistic obsession. |
6 (original) | Daki & Gyutaro | Dead. Slain in Entertainment District Arc (pre-Infinity Castle) by Tanjiro, Tengen, and others. | Daki: obi belts as weapons; Gyutaro: poisonous sickle-like attacks; both required simultaneous defeat. |
4 (new) | Nakime | Alive. | Mostly unknown. Biwa-controlled spatial Blood Demon Art: manipulates castle layout, teleports occupants, controls Infinity Castle. |
6 (new) | Kaigaku | Alive | Unknown. |
That's not to forget that some of these dreaded demons have already killed at least one Hashira, including the former Flower Hashira (the elder sister of Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho), as well as the deceased Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku. This brings us to our next point…
8. Azaka is the demon who killed Flame Hashira Rengoku

Who is Azaka and why is the internet so excited to see him return to the big screen? Simply put, Azaka is the demon who overpowered and killed Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku at the end of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train (2020). Enraged and grieving for the beloved Hashira but far too injured to fight, Tanjiro was unable to stop Azaka in the aftermath. The demon successfully fled from the rising sun.

For Tanjiro, clashing with the demon again in the Infinity Castle is a chance to take revenge for Rengoku and prove his newfound strength. However, as the Upper Moon Three (and one of Muzan's favourite demons), Azaka won't go down easily and will certainly be on guard against him this time around.
9. Zenitsu will return with a totally different personality
Photo from Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)
The often cowardly and comically overreactive Zenitsu we’ve seen so far? You might want to say goodbye to him. At the end of the Hashira Training Arc, Zenitsu receives a letter from his sparrow that sends him into a state we've never seen before.
He immediately becomes solemn, deadly serious and laser focused on his goal. His usual loud outbursts and panicked rambling are gone, replaced with a quiet intensity. For longtime viewers, it’s a shocking shift — and a hint that the next time Zenitsu draws his sword, we may witness skills and resolve far beyond anything he’s shown before.
10. Upper Moon 1 has ties to the Kamado family

Potentially the most sinister figure amongst the ranks of the Muzan’s elite lieutenants, Upper Moon One is the most feared. Not just for his overwhelming strength, but apparently also for his deep connection to the origins of Demon Slayer techniques. His mastery of a rare breathing style and centuries of battle experience make him an opponent unlike any other the Corps has faced.
Sharp-eyed viewers might recall small hints scattered throughout the series: the resemblance between Tanjiro and the mysterious swordsman in his family’s memories, the strikingly similar Hanafuda earrings, and shared elements in their sword forms. These clues suggest that Upper Moon One’s past may intertwine with the roots of the Demon Slayer Corps and the Kamado family itself, setting the stage for revelations that could change everything we know about Tanjiro's lineage.
