Has severe RBF but is fairly jolly and carefree on the inside. Degree of life satisfaction is heavily influenced by food.

The beauty industry sees trends constantly but not all of them work. One current beauty trend that does is products that contain a superfood: tomato.

You might have heard of or even tried the best-selling tomato bubble mask from Singaporean beauty brand Ellure Group. Over 400,000 boxes sold in just 6 months and it received rave reviews.

Well, Ellure Group has launched new tomato-based bodycare and haircare products. We put their products to the test to see if they're worth the hype.

Keep reading to find out the beauty benefits of tomatoes & our review of Ellure Group's tomato-based products!

#1 Benefit of tomatoes: Combat oily scalp and flat hair

An oily scalp not only makes hair limp and flat, it also can give off a foul odour when bacteria thrives on the excess oil. Oily hair is more alkaline, so that's where tomatoes will come in! Tomatoes help bring the pH of the scalp to between 4.5-5.5 which will help ease the oiliness. They're also enriched with vitamin C which helps get rid of dandruff and itchiness.

I have fine hair that gets oily at the roots which makes it lie flat on the crown, coupled with dry ends that frizzes up easily. My hair type is the perfect candidate to test out the Ellure Luscious Revitalizing Tomato Shampoo ($27). First of all, I was already sold by how cute the ball-shaped bottle looked in my bathroom. ?

This shampoo is designed for those with an oily, itchy scalp as well as dry, frizzy hair. It deep cleanses the scalp and hair thoroughly and regulates sebum production while strengthening hair follicles, repairing damaged hair and restoring elasticity of hair.

After two weeks of using Ellure's tomato-based shampoo, there was a considerable difference in my hair. On a regular day, my scalp and hair would start to look greasy and limp by mid afternoon. After using this shampoo, I noticed that it still looked fresh and oil-free at about 7pm. My hair also looked more voluminous and had less flyaways.

While many shampoos that solved my oily scalp issues would leave my hair feeling dehydrated, the Ellure shampoo didn't. It also left a pleasant, delicate scent on my hair.

#2 Benefit of tomatoes: Controls hair frizz

Another beauty benefit of tomatoes is their high water content which has an effective hydrating effect on dry, frizzy and damaged hair.

I used the shampoo with the accompanying Ellure Luxuriant Tomato Hair Conditioner ($22, or $46 with the shampoo). It's designed to deliver deep hydration and strengthen hair, making it tangle-free and glossy.

The conditioner lived up to its claim! While my hair is usually difficult to comb, it had significantly less knots and tangles after using the conditioner for two weeks. Another important plus is that while it hydrated my hair and made it smoother and shiny, it didn't weigh down my fine hair.

#3 Benefit of tomatoes: Brightens dull skin

Tomatoes are packed with potassium and vitamin C which have a nourishing and rejuvenating effect on the skin. As a natural astringent, tomato also keeps the skin firm and helps improve and prevent signs of ageing.

My lower legs are very dry with a rough and dull look compared to the rest of my body. I gave the Ellure Tomato Invigorating Shower Gel ($26, or $69 with shampoo & conditioner) a go to see if it could improve its condition. It's formulated to gently cleanse the skin while moisturising it and balancing its pH levels. It comes in an adorable pink bottle!

After two weeks of using the shower gel, my skin looked much more hydrated and radiant. Although I got lazy and skipped my body moisturiser occasionally, my skin didn't feel parched or get that unsightly scale-like look.

#4 Benefit of tomatoes: Helps acne and acne scars heal faster

Rich in antioxidants, tomato extracts help remove dead skin cells, brighten skin, fight cellular damage and help promote collagen production in the skin. Tomatoes also have wound-healing properties. This makes tomato-based skincare ideal for those with acne-prone skin.

Angela tried out the famous Ellure Tomato Resonance Graphene Bubble Mask ($28) to see it's worth the hype! This mask has a unique self-foaming formula that bubbles up as the name suggests. This oxygenating effect helps deliver key ingredients, namely tomato extracts, deep into the skin. It also works to deep cleanse the skin, removing oil, grime and makeup residue while minimising the appearance of large pores and preventing acne breakouts.

Although the bubbles look intimidating, this mask is suitable for sensitive skin. Angela reported that the bubbling mask felt like she was getting a gentle facial massage. While it was left on for 10 to 15 minutes, it felt comfortable on her skin as it's made of graphene, a soft and breathable fabric.

Just after one use, Angela's complexion looked brighter and more even. Her skin was also smoother to the touch and felt hydrated and clean without a tight feeling.

#5 Benefit of tomatoes: Prevents oxidative damage

Last but not least, tomatoes prevent oxidative damage from excess free radicals that damage skin cells and hair follicles. Oxidative stress can be caused by factors like UV damage, diet and stress. Although we don't see the damage immediately, it causes dullness, dryness and accelerates the ageing process in skin and hair over the long term.

The Ellure shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and mask all have the benefits of tomatoes to combat oxidative damage. Tomatoes contain vitamin E which has antioxidant properties reducing UV damage. It also contains lycopene, an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory benefits and helps fight free radicals in the body.

After trying the Ellure products, we can safely say that they've successfully channeled the benefits of tomatoes and are totally worth the hype. If you want to add these tomato-based products to your skincare and haircare routine, you can shop for them online here -> qoo10.sg.
