Japan is well-known for their hot springs but the Jhih-ben area of Taitung in southeastern Taiwan is also a travel destination that's popular for its natural hot springs as well as medicinal plants and herbs. Taitung is about two and a half hours away from Taipei by plane and three and a half hours by train.

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas is opening a new luxurious hotel located in Taitung that has stunning architecture and views of the surrounding mountains.

The resort and spa are designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma who is known for his ability to celebrate nature through design.

The resort's curved architecture is designed to merge seamlessly with the natural surroundings while simultaneously standing out from the greenery.

Reinforcing the relationship between inside and outside, natural materials will be used create a feeling of warmth and comfort. Floor-to-ceiling windows will provide undisrupted views of the surrounding environment.

The three-storey spa will be located in a separate building with mountain views. There will be treatment rooms, a tea lounge, extensive wet areas, indoor and outdoor hot spring bathing pools, suspended relaxation pods, a gym, a Tai Chi garden, an infinity pool and more.

The spa menu will feature treatments based on traditional Taiwanese healing, holistic anti-ageing treatments and personalised wellness programs.

If your stress level is on the rise, this sounds like the perfect place to unwind and relax while taking plenty of Insta-worthy shots. The hotel is a 30-minute drive from Taitung Airport and is set to open in 2021.
