Chinese Drama Based On COVID-19 Pandemic Draws Criticism

China's National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) announced this new 20-episode drama. Each episode will detail individual stories based on real-life people and situations during China's anti-pandemic period. Through artistic processes, it aims to portray the Chinese people's heroism and spirit of unity while fighting against the cornonavirus.

This series has an assemble of accomplished directors and screenwriters including Liuliu, Qin Wen, Gao Xuan, Ren Baoru, Feng Ye and more. Screenwriter Zhang Xin has already begun research for the drama in Wuhan.

However, netizens responded with outrage at the idea of the drama. Many questioned the timing of its release and criticised the dramatisation of such a serious issue. Some commented that if a retelling of the crisis is to be done, it would be better as a documentary as a learning lesson for the younger generation rather than as a drama which could be insensitive.
