If you are unsure about which products to apply first, you have come to the right article. Make your money's worth by using your skincare products correctly so that your skin can absorb all the benefits.

Read on to find out more!

#1 Cleanse away your makeup

The first and most important step in your skincare routine is to remove all traces of makeup on your skin at the end of the day.

Use an oil-based remover, cleansing balm or micellar water to completely remove all the makeup, gunk and dust accumulated from your day out.

#2 Double cleanse with your regular facial wash

Use your gentle facial wash for a second cleanse so that your pores are clean and the oils left behind by oil-based removers and cleansing balms are removed.

#3 Apply toner

You should apply toner after washing your face as it will help to prep your skin for the other skincare products you will be applying. Toners also work to remove environmental toxins such as smoke, smog and other chemical residues from your skin.

Regardless of whether you use an exfoliating or hydrating toner, it should still be applied as the third step in your skincare routine.

#4 Put on a sheet mask

On days when you feel like putting on a sheet mask, do it after applying toner. If you read the instructions on the back of your sheet mask packaging, you will see that it's recommended to apply a layer of toner on your skin before putting on the mask.

This is so that the toner soothes your irritated skin while removing any impurities, letting your skin soak up all the goodness from the sheet mask.

#5 Serum

The next step is to apply your serum and use one that will tackle your skin concerns. Serums usually have a gel-like texture so thinner to thicker is the general rule to apply here.

#6 Facial oil

If you are one of those who require extra hydration due to dry skin, you can add a drop of facial oil into your moisturiser to boost hydration.

#7 Moisturiser

A moisturiser is a must-have in every skincare routine and should be applied last as it has the heaviest consistency.

#8 Sleeping mask

If you use a sleeping mask a few times each week, make it the last step in your routine. Like the name suggests, you need to apply it before sleep and wash off the next day.

#9 Lip mask/lip balm

End your daily skincare routine with a moisturising lip mask or lip balm. These are life saviours especially if you sleep in an air-conditioned room where the air is extremely dry.
