New ‘Legally Blonde' Series ‘Elle’ Is In The Works—Here’s Your First Look & All the Details

What, like making a Legally Blonde prequel is hard? Elle Woods is back, and this time, we’re diving into her high school years! Amazon MGM Studios confirmed Elle, a prequel series that shows how she became the pink-loving, confidence-oozing powerhouse we all adore. And guess what? They’ve already found the perfect Elle!

When Was Elle Announced?

On 14 May 2024, Reese Witherspoon took the spotlight at Amazon’s Upfront presentation, officially announcing Elle. She rocked a pink two-piece and carried a tiny chihuahua, paying tribute to Bruiser Woods.

The Team Behind Elle

Reese Witherspoon’s production company, Hello Sunshine, is working with show runners Laura Kittrell and Caroline Dries to bring Elle to life. Original Legally Blonde producer Marc Platt is also on board, with Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directing the first two episodes.

Meet the New Elle Woods

Lexi Minetree will be playing young Elle Woods, with Reese sharing the big news on Instagram:

"After watching so many incredible auditions for the new Elle prequel series on @PrimeVideo, we finally found our Elle. And today, I got to break the news myself! Meet @leximinetree"

The cast also includes:

June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mum, Eva, Tom Everett Scott as Elle’s dad, Wyatt, Gabrielle Policano as Liz, the “anti-Elle Woods”, Jacob Moskovitz as Miles, the school’s star athlete, smitten by Elle, and Chandler Kinney as Kimberly, a sarcastic senior who’s not impressed by Elle.

Filming is already underway, and Reese wasted no time sharing a sneak peek. "Harvard was hard. High School was harder. Our new series, Elle, is now in production! Couldn't be more excited to introduce you all to @leximinetree as Elle Woods." She wrote in her caption. The first look screams 90s nostalgia—Elle’s on a clear landline phone, rocking a pink hoodie, and lounging on pink bedding. The Elle Woods aesthetic is alive and thriving!

What’s Elle About?

As per the official logline, "Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.”

When Will Elle Be Released?

There is no official release date yet, but Elle is set to drop in 2025 on Amazon Prime Video.

Legally Blonde hit screens in 2001, following Elle’s journey from underestimated sorority queen to Harvard Law star. The 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, took her to Washington, D.C., where she fought for animal rights in style. The story even became a Broadway musical in 2007.
