There's a fine line between cute and gimmicky when it comes to aesthetically pleasing food — and we're happy to report that Kumachan Onsen Hotpot is definitely part of the former! The popular bear-shaped hotpot from Japan has absolutely been taking over all our social media feeds (especially on TikTok), and is now open for bearsiness in Singapore.
Located on the 7th floor of Orchard Central, this shabu shabu and yakiniku spot will immediately catch your eye thanks to its colourful and adorable bear-themed decor. Visitors are greeted by a pair of giant teddy bears, perfect for those who want a quick photo moment before heading inside for their meal.

Once you enter the restaurant, you'll spot... that's right, even more bears! Along the walls, on the screens separating individual booths, sitting atop hammocks around the diner, they're everywhere. It's embearassing, but we tried to keep a running headcount of the cute critters and lost count after a while.

Of course, the stars of the show are the bears that sit in the hotpot, which will slowly melt into a soup base for your shabu shabu enjoyment. You can pick from white, red, and brown bears in 6 flavours. These include classic selections like Japanese Miso and Collagen, as well as more unique varieties like Chicken Mabo and Gochujang. Each set ranges from $15.80 - $23.80.

It's kind of sad to see the endearing bears melt into thick goopy goodness, but the yummy taste of these bear-soups will make the process bearable!

Each hotpot set also comes with a choice of meat and bowl of vegetables to cook in the broth. While the vegetables are fresh and tasty, the soft yet springy cuts of meat really stole the limelight.

We also love the cute sauce station, where diners can combine fresh ingredients to make their unique dipping sauce. There are also some good ready-made sauces available for those who don't want to rack their brains making their own! Our favourites were the ponzu, sesame, and black pepper ones.

Still hungry? Grill up some more meat from the yakiniku menu, where you can find everything from Australian Angus Beef Sirloin Steak to Sambal Belacan Chicken. We picked some Beef Karubi Tongue, Yakiniku, and Beef Sirloin Steak, and were thrilled with the juiciness of the meat and delicious umami flavour.

Those who want to complete their meal with sides like Noodles, Rice, Chicken Gyoza, or desserts like Japanese Pudding and Marshmallow sticks can also do so. Due to its popularity, dining in the store is limited to 60 minutes, so do keep an eye on the time while feasting here!
