Crazy cat lady who loves afternoon tea, kawaii Japanese fashion, and all things Sanrio.

Life often comes full circle, as it has for Kumoya Singapore, a cafe famous for its cutesy character pop-ups. Their first themed collab at Bugis was done up with a Cinnamoroll theme, just in time to celebrate the Sanrio character’s 15th anniversary. After numerous theme changes which included Little Twin Stars, as well as the opening of a second branch at Somerset, Kumoya has decided to launch a brand new Cinnamoroll concept, this time at the latter outlet.

Incidentally, this coincides with yet another Sanrio milestone: The 20th anniversary of the adorable puppy character. He also happens to have clinched the top place in this year’s Sanrio Character Ranking - both in Singapore as well as globally - so you can expect hordes of Sanrio fans queueing up for this kawaii dining experience.

Taking over the current My Little Pony decor, the Kumoya’s Cinnamoroll cafe at Orchard Central will be clad in mystical pastel decor in pretty shades of pink, blue, and purple. It might be a coincidence, but it appears that there’s an Alice In Wonderland-esque theme going on, with motifs like playing cards, pocket watches, tea sets, and magic potion bottles covering the tables and walls. Overhead are puffy cloud decorations dangling from the ceiling with similar designs.

As usual, there’s also the semi-private Japanese-style tatami seating area, which you can attempt to book if you’re celebrating a special occasion (subject to availability).

There are 5 mains to choose from, starting from $24.90 for the Hippie Happy Cinnamoroll Smoked Duck Pasta, and going up to $28.90 for the Fluffy Dreamland Japanese Seafood Curry Rice which has Cinnamoroll sleeping under a Japanese omelette “blanket”.

Another seafood-based option is the Let’s Fly Cinnamoroll Japanese Salmon Croquette Cream Rice ($26.90), with blue sauce naturally coloured with butterfly pea flower, while meat-lovers will enjoy biting into the Flying Clouds Cinnamoroll Cheese Burger ($25.90).

Good news for those with vegetarian friends - the meat and seafood can be swapped out for other options like plant-based croquettes and plant-based patties, so no one has to be left out!

Drinks at Kumoya’s Cinnamoroll cafe

Once again, the drink selection will leave patrons spoiled for choice. Out of the 10 drinks, the Cutie Fluffy Cinnamoroll Yuzu Soda ($16.90) with cotton candy decorated to look like the Sanrio character’s head is arguably the most Instagram-worthy. Pour the soda right over the cotton candy to sweeten your drink, or eat it separately if you wish.

The pink Floaty Cloud Strawberry Frappe ($13.90) is another artistic creation that you’d be excited to try. Those who prefer hot drinks can go for the Cinnamoroll Hot Latte or Hot Chocolate ($11.90), each with a kawaii edible decal on the surface.

The Cinnamoroll Cafe at Kumoya Singapore will be starting on 19 August 2022. No end date has been specified, but like the previous Rilakkuma and Hello Kitty editions, this should last for around 6 months or so before the next character takes over. We’ll update this space once there’s more info!
