Finding the right makeup remover can be a bit of a trial and error. Some makeup removers, while gentle, don’t do the best job of removing waterproof makeup. Others, while effective at cleansing, tend to be a bit too harsh, especially on sensitive skin.

While I don’t have sensitive skin, I find that most makeup removers tend to make my eyes sting, which is an issue since I wear eye makeup very often - that includes smudge-proof eyeliner and waterproof mascara. The worst part is that even after all that pain and trouble, my eye makeup isn’t completely removed and I have to double cleanse to make sure that I get everything off.

Bioderma, the French skincare brand well-loved for its gentle and dermatologist-recommended products, has recently launched an eye and lip makeup remover that seems to be the solution to that problem. Called Sensibio H2O Eye, this product uses an activated biphase micellar technology that not only removes the most stubborn of makeup but also soothes and strengthens your skin barrier at the same time.

Read on to find out more about Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Eye, as well as 5 readers’ reviews of it!

If you don’t already use makeup remover specifically formulated for eyes and lips, here’s why you really should make the switch: the skin around your eyes and lips are thinner than the other parts of your face, making them more prone to irritation, either due to harsh ingredients or rough tugging and pulling.

While other makeup removers are formulated with 50% oily phase and 50% micellar water, Sensibio H2O Eye is formulated with 30% optimised oily phase and 70% micellar water. The oily phase is just enough to dissolve external pollutants and waterproof makeup within a few seconds, while the micellar water quickly traps and removes the dirt before it can cause any irritation or swelling. The formula also contains fructooligosaccharides, which help with fighting inflammation and soothing sensitive skin.

We love a hardworking product here at GirlStyle, and the Sensibio H2O Eye is a great example of an effective multi-tasker. Formulated with Provitamin B5, an active ingredient that strengthens your lashes and skin’s natural barrier and D.A.F complex, which moisturises and raises your skin’s tolerance threshold, this cleanser is also a skincare product in itself.

To use, shake well first to activate the micelles and create a stable homogeneous emulsion. Then, soak a cotton pad with the product and gently sweep it across your eyes or lips. Remember, almost no rubbing is needed with the Sensibio H2O Eye! Not that you should anyway, because the skin around your eyes and lips are thinner and more fragile. For really stubborn eye makeup, place a soaked cotton pad on your eyes for 20 seconds first.

After cleansing, simply pat dry with a towel and you’re done! No double cleansing is needed as the Sensibio H2O Eye doesn’t leave any oily or sticky residue behind - just the feeling of fresh and cleansed skin.

Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Eye is retailing at $19.90 for 125ml at Watsons. For the exclusive launch period (till 20 July), you can get the Sensibio H2O eye at an introductory offer of up to 30% off (and an instant $5 off $50 spend on the Watsons eStore). Also available islandwide at Amazon.SG, Guardian Health & Beauty, LazMall, Shopee Mall, Unity and Welcia-BHG from August 2022.

"The Bioderma Sensibio H2O Eye removes my eye makeup effectively with just 1 to 2 swipes across the eye area without causing any irritation or stinging, even when I am wearing contacts. I’ve also noticed that after 1 week of using the product, my eye area feels a lot more hydrated."

“I wear a full face of makeup on a regular basis - heavy eyeshadow, thick winged liner, triple-layered mascara, the whole works. The Sensibio H2O Eye managed to clean these off without the need for any pulling or tugging, and didn’t sting my eyes or irritate my lids. I have rosacea and my skin is easily aggravated - including the area above my upper lip. This gentle makeup remover didn’t cause any redness or irritation on that problem area when I removed my waterproof lipstick. Would recommend this to anyone who has sensitive skin conditions like myself!”

“What really surprised me was that my eyeliner was completely removed in just two swipes using the Sensibio H2O Eye! I usually need more product than that to completely remove my eye makeup. Unlike other products, it didn’t leave behind any sticky residue and my skin felt refreshed, almost like I had just cleansed my face. All in all, this is a really good formula.”

“I usually have to rub cleansing oil all over my eyes to remove waterproof mascara, which stings my eyes and makes my vision blurry. With Bioderma’s Sensibio H2O Eye, however, all I needed to do was gently swipe a soaked cotton pad across my eyes a few times. It thoroughly removed my eye makeup without any irritation! This product is less drying compared to other removers I’ve tried and does not leave behind a greasy or sticky residue. Would highly recommend this, especially to those with sensitive skin like mine!”

“This cleanser didn’t feel as sticky as other makeup removers that I’ve tried and wasn’t heavy or oily on my skin. I didn’t experience any stinging or irritation when I cleansed my eyes and lips. It cleaned off my eyeshadow easily, but more effort was needed to get my waterproof eyeliner off.”
