Singapore Tattoo Artist Creates Super Kawaii “Sticker-Like” Designs Featuring Your Favourite Characters
Think of tattoos and what first comes to mind will probably be badass black ink designs. Think of coloured tattoos, and it’d probably be delicate fine line ones, which are a hot trend these days especially among women. Now, here’s a new body art style that fans of all things kawaii will love: Sticker tattoos.
As their name suggests, these tattoos have a realistic sticker-like appearance with cute designs and vivid colours - very much like the temporary tattoos we used to apply using water when we were kids. Except, these are 100% permanent - and there’s a particular tattoo artist in Singapore who specialises in them.

Created by a Bel (@bel.tattooworldsg) from Singapore tattoo parlour Tattoo World, these sticker tattoos look very much like actual stickers - so much so that when we first came across them, we did a double take and spent a while wondering if they were real permanent tattoos or fake ones (we checked with Bel, and she has confirmed that they are indeed real!).

Bel’s backstory is an inspiring one. Before this, she worked at Sephora for 3 years but lost her job during the pandemic. Having previously left school at the young age of 15, she didn’t have any proper certifications to her name, and was initially at a loss of what to do.

Soon after, she made up her mind to learn the art of tattooing, but her friends were unconvinced, saying it wouldn’t be easy and that she wouldn’t be able to sustain it for long as there are already so many tattoo artists in Singapore.
Yet, she went ahead, starting a 6-month apprenticeship with Tattoo World in October 2020, and it indeed proved to be a challenge. She struggled for about a year or so, before word spread and she gained more clients for her kawaii niche. This style of illustration reflects the now-22-year-old’s own love for all things cute and pastel. In line with this, most of her works feature cartoon characters.

One of her fortes? Sanrio characters, which you’ll see all over her Instagram page. Her renditions of them are quite creative as well - we’ve seen Pochacco on top of a gumball machine, Hangyodon the fish as part of a blueberry soda, and a foursome of Sanrio friends incorporated on a Yakult bottle.

That said, she’s also skilled in doing designs of other cartoon franchises, such as Disney, Pokemon, and even Peach Cat (Mi Tao Mao), a popular Telegram sticker pack character. We love how she transformed Togepi and Jigglypuff into a pair of cherries!

Your design doesn’t specifically have to be a cartoon character, though. It can simply be an animal or your own vision, done up in her trademark style.

From time to time, Bel releases her own flash tattoo designs. There’s only one of each, and they will never be repeated as tattoos are something that are highly personal. Below is an example of one of her past flash tattoos. As you can see from the initial photo versus the final product, minor tweaks can be done to make the tattoo suit your personality more. In this case, the client chose to have the entire piece bear-themed, instead of a mix of bear and rabbit motifs.

Customisation from scratch can definitely be done as well. If you only have a vague idea of what you might want, fret not, because Bel will be able to work her magic and come up with something that’s truly you.
