It's always exciting to see what Kumoya has dreamt up for the photo op at their entrance. Instead of their usual character standees in previous themed concepts like Crayon Shin-Chan, this new takeover has a majestic statue of SpongeBob Squarepants.

Ambience at SpongeBob x Impossible Cafe

We let out a 'wow' when entering the cafe as the bright and colourful themed decor brought back fond childhood memories. Fans of the show will recognise characters and references like SpongeBob's hometown, Bikini Bottom, and the Krabby Patty.

Food at SpongeBob x Impossible Cafe

Impossible Mini Corn Dogs ($13.90)

Like all the menu items, this corn dog is made with Impossible meat. We've tried this plant-based meat several times and have always been impressed by its meat-like taste and texture, so we had high hopes!

The Impossible meat had herbs mixed in which gave it an earthy flavour and the batter-to-sausage ratio was just right - worth trying if you're a fried food lover.

"No problemo" The Impossible Burger ($25.90)

This cute burger comes with an Impossible patty, tamagoyaki, caramelised onions, tomatoes and sliced cheddar cheese between SpongeBob-shaped bread. Served on the side are a Patrick bun, tater tots and garden salad.

The mix of flavours from the juicy patty, cheddar cheese and caramelised onion were a delight, and tater tots will always be a winner. This dish would almost be perfect if not for the mantou bread which was dry and dense.

We particularly loved the sweet Japanese-style rolled egg that had a soft and almost custard-like texture.

The little Patrick bun had the same issue with dryness but was less noticeable when eaten with the light matcha-flavoured paste inside.

"Aye-aye Captain" Impossible Japanese Croquette Curry Rice ($24.90)

The Impossible meat is made into a crispy fried cutlet this time, with SpongeBob-shaped turmeric rice, pineapple curry and fresh garden salad on the side.

The batter on the katsu was light and non-greasy while still having a solid crunch. The plant-based meat was moist and plenty flavourful on its own but we also enjoyed it dipped in the sweet Japanese curry.

The other two mains are "I wumbo, you wumbo, he she we wumbo" Impossible Meatball Pomodoro Pasta ($23.90) and "I'm ready!" Life is Sweet Impossible Big Breakfast ($26.90).

"Let's talk funny" Pudding Parfait ($17.90)

Save some space for desserts cuz they're too cute not to order. Just look at this pudding dessert!

The Hokkaido soft serve was surprisingly light and not cloying, and it paired well with the Honey Stars cereal and fruit.

The little glass with a SpongeBob face has mango pudding while Patrick's is a strawberry pudding. Both had a soft, creamy texture and delicate flavour.

"Order up!" Get Toasty Dessert Set ($21.90)

The other dessert on the menu is this fun DIY toast set where you'll toast the bread and marshmallows on a burner. It also comes with Hokkaido soft serve and fruit.

We were thoroughly entertained but this simple yet wholesome campfire-esque set up. The toast can be enjoyed by itself, with butter or dipped in the chocolate sauce.

Honourable mention for the SpongeBob cookie - Kumoya's fragrant and buttery cookies are always what we look forward to in their desserts.

Pineapple Under-The-Sea ($12.90 each)

Diners who order this iced tea will be able to bring home the cute pineapple-shaped cup that it's served in. It comes in two flavours: Lychee Momo and Pineapple. We were expecting an overly sweet or artificial flavour but surprisingly, both iced teas had neither of the issues and turned out to be refreshing thirst-quenchers.

There are two other photo-worth drinks on the menu: SpongeBob Mango Frappe and Patrick Strawberry Frappe ($12.90 each).

As expected of a themed cafe, the food and drinks are pretty pricey even for the generous servings, but that's the trade-off for the impeccable presentation created by Shirley Wong (@littlemissbento). If you're a SpongeBob fan, you'll be happy you splurged on this dining experience!
