Initial D’s Fujiwara Tofu Shop Is Opening In Malaysia As A Themed Cafe With Food & Merch
The Initial D manga series, and later on the film adaptation starring Jay Chou, were both released in what seems like eons ago. Nevertheless, the franchise remains a classic, especially since cars never go out of style. In fact, there exists a famous real-life version of Fujiwara Tofu Shop in Japan - and a second one is set to open in Malaysia anytime now in 2020.

For the uninitiated, Fujiwara Tofu Shop is where Takumi Fujiwara, the main character of Initial D, lives with his father Bunta. Bunta mans the store selling tofu, while Takumi serves as his delivery boy. When night falls, however, Takumi tears up the roads as a speed demon and strives to become the best street racer in the region.

You’ll need more than just a quick zoom across the Causeway to get to Fujiwara Tofu Shop Malaysia, as it’s located in Subang Jaya. Luckily, it’s still within easy reach, being less than a 40-minute drive away from Kuala Lumpur’s city centre which many of us Singaporeans enjoy frequenting.

While the OG Fujiwara Tofu Store in Japan’s Gunma prefecture only sells merchandise and car-related accessories, this one across the border will have actual food and drinks - including tofu! Taking closely after the shop in the movie, it looks almost exact to its Japanese counterpart.

Food aside, you can also look forward to themed merch here. Not much has been revealed as of yet, but they’ve already posted pictures of some shoes on their Facebook page as a teaser.

Currently, the cafe is still undergoing renovation, but you are still welcome to drop by to snap a photo of your car against the storefront - especially if it’s an Initial D car model!
Car enthusiasts can probably expect to meet other like-minded people at this themed cafe once it opens. Best to avoid racing back and forth along the shophouses in the area though ?
