To relieve eye strain, use clean fingers to gently massage your eyelids, and around the eyebrows with your fingers for 20 seconds 2-3 times a day. Massaging at regular intervals not only relaxes the eye muscles but also improves blood circulation. It also helps to stimulate the tear glands, preventing dry eyes.

A warm compress is a great way to relax your eye muscles and relieve dry eyes after a long day of staring at computer screens and books. For this method, dip a soft, clean cloth into warm water (not hot!) and find a comfortable place to lie down. Close your eyes and place the warm cloth over your eyelids. Alternatively, you can use a steam eye mask. Quick and convenient!

Cold water is said to be effective in improving blood circulation and relaxing strained eyes. Dip a soft and clean cloth into cold water and dab it on your eyes. This cold compress helps decreases the puffiness of the eyes. If your eye strain has resulted in puffiness or swelling around the eye area, wrap a few ice cubes in a clean cloth and place it on your eyelids for about 2 minutes. This cold compress will help decrease the puffiness.

#6 Blink More Often

Blinking produces tears that moisten and refresh your eyes. But research shows that those who work with computer screens are less likely to blink at regular intervals. Try to make it a habit to blink more often when looking at a monitor.

Roll your eyes to the right and then slowly shift your gaze to the left. Keep doing the same thing but in opposite directions. Then move your gaze in different directions by looking from right to left and then up and down. You can also draw geometric figures with your gaze. Repeat the process for five to ten times.

It is easy to stare at screens for long hours, especially with WFH, binge-watching dramas and playing Animal Crossing. Prolonged exposure to computer screens and electronic devices can cause eye strain that may result in headaches, dry or watery eyes and eye irritation.
