Two young hawkers are cooking for anyone who cannot afford meals during the Covid-19 circuit breaker. The co-owners of Beng Who Cooks in Hong Lim Complex Market and Food Centre, Mr Jason Chua and Mr Hung Zheng Long, both 28, started the Beng Who Cares Foundation, an initiative where they cook meals for anyone who can’t afford them.

The cost of the meals, which are protein bowls, is being sponsored by Mr Chua's friend, who would like to remain anonymous. Each bowl would cost a paying customer between $6 and $9.

The ‘Beng Who Cares Foundation’ started “accidentally” when a close friend reached out to Chua with a heart-wrenching story of an elderly uncle begging for loose change. That’s when Chua and Hung came up with the initiative, with that friend’s financial backing.

The duo have just one request: Don’t send them any monetary donations, as they have the means to finance the free meals – just help get the word out to those who could benefit.

"We don't need proof, just tell us and we'll (deliver)," Chua said in the video. "Even if you do bad things, you just want to get a free meal, so be it." They are also offering meals to children who have been unable to have proper meals due to school closures, calling for them to come forward.

Those who need a free meal can drop them a message- no questions asked - a day in advance with @bengwhocaresfoundation on Instagram before 7pm.

For those who want to place orders for their food for the next day, the link to the Google form is here, while more updates can be found on their  Instagram and Facebook page. They have also collaborated with a neighbouring drinks stall to deliver drinks for customers, and help out the drinks stall as well!
