Ever notice yourself squinting at your phone screen in the wee hours of the night while texting away with your bae or friends? Although our phones are equipped with the dark mode function to reduce glare, WhatsApp did not have a dark mode function until now.

The new update lowers brightness of the screen, cuts down the glare, and improves contrast and readability. You can now text away all night long with this update that is definitely much easier on the eyes!

The dark mode will mostly be black on iOS devices and a darker grey on Android.

Check out what it looks like in WhatsApp's promotional video:

Users on Android 10 and iOS 13 will automatically get dark mode enabled on the app by turning on dark mode in your phone system settings. Those on Android 9 and below can enable it by going into WhatsApp settings.

Don't panic if you currently don't see the dark mode on your phone as this new feature is being rolled out gradually to all users. We can only be patient for now and look forward to texting in the dark without lighting up our entire room!
