Although Bangkok is famous for super cheap shopping and oh-so-delicious street food, it can get tiring walking shops after shops after shops. Why not take one day out of your itinerary and explore a different part of Bangkok that will let you get in touch with your cultural side and take some absolutely stunning photos at the same time?

The Erawan Museum is most famous for its giant three-headed elephant display that is stunning to say the least. Perched on a pink pedestal, the three-headed elephant represents Erawan, a holy white elephant with 33 heads but usually represented in a three-headed form for aesthetic purposes in art. This spectacular structure is 43.6 metres tall and weighs 150 tons so you can imagine how grand it would look when you visit the place in person.

Before you head into the museum, make sure to take a photo with the pink exterior accompanied with intricate detailing and embellishment over the entrance.

As you head into the museum, you will be wowed by how spectacular the interior is. The elaborate embellishments and carvings extends into the museum, creating a beautiful, breathtaking backdrop for your pictures.

The Erawan Museum covers three levels that represents the underworld, earth, and heaven. You will first enter the Suvarnabhumi level - the underworld - which contains precious artefacts from the founder, Lek Viriyaphant's personal collection.

The second floor, Earth, houses three major types of art pieces and precious antiques and arts including Thai ceramics, stained glass, and European potteries. The top floor, which represents heaven, which is located on top of Mount Meru in Buddhist cosmology. Expect a vast display of Buddha's relics and ancient Buddha statues from several eras. Many believers will also come to the top floor to pay their respects to the god Indra and the three-headed elephant god.

The Erawan Museum is located at the outskirts of Bangkok, in Samut Prakan, but you can take a BTS train to Pu Chao station and then take a taxi down. Make sure you wear something that covers your knees and shoulders as the museum is considered a holy ground. We suggest you wear a long dress with solid neutral colours so as to let the intricate background shine.
