Dreame Pocket Uni Review: 3-In-One Hair Dryer & Styler Is A Travel Essential For Quick Styling

If it’s a holiday that the besties and I painstakingly saved up for and spent months planning, best believe we’re taking photos of it to immortalise the memories. And of course, we’d better look our very best in these photos! Outfits and makeup are easy enough to coordinate, but it’s the hair that’s tricky. Hotel hair dryers may not be reliable (and are breeding grounds for bacteria and germs too), and no one wants a heavy, bulky styling tool taking up precious luggage space. While on the hunt for a solution, I came across the Dreame Pocket Uni that was made for travel hairstyling.

For those new to Dreame, the brand first made its name in smart home innovation as the World’s No. 1 Premium Robot Vacuum Brand. That same technology-driven approach is applied to its beauty tech, with hair tools that combine powerful performance and sleek, travel-friendly design. Case in point: the Pocket Uni. It’s designed to make everyday styling easier no matter what look you’re going for or where you’re travelling.

First Impressions: Compact & Lightweight

Imagine my surprise when it came in a cute little pouch small enough to fit into a handbag. I was half-expecting it to contain just the main hairdryer, but tucked inside was the dryer and all three attachments, with extra room for hair clips and scrunchies, no less.

It didn’t seem physically possible, but here’s the trick: the Pocket Uni has a clever foldable design with a hinge that bends up to 180 degrees. This means that the styler can change shape depending on the styling function, and then be satisfyingly “closed” like a flip phone for storage. Fun fact: Dreame is the creator of the World's First 180° Foldable High-Speed Hair Dryer!

It’s also incredibly light at a mere 330g, compared to traditional hair dryers that weigh twice as much on average.

For reference, here’s the Pocket Uni looking so tiny even in a cabin-sized suitcase below:

Every time I bring a hair dryer or styling tool overseas, there’s that looming question if it will work properly. Is it compatible with the local voltage, will the airflow feel weaker, or will the dryer get too hot after a few minutes? But the Pocket Uni eases all these worries as it has SmartVolt™ technology so it performs consistently within a 100 to 240V range, which covers most of the world, including Japan, South Korea and the UK. Just pack an adapter and you're good to go.

Finally, it’s a multi-purpose device that’s a high-speed hair dryer that also functions as a styler to create multiple looks from curled to sleek and smooth. So, this 3-in-1 tool effectively replaces multiple tools.

Fast Blow-Drying

First, I tested the Pocket Uni on its own as a hair dryer, bending it into a ‘7’ shape. It has two airflow modes, High and Low, and five temperature settings: Cold Air, Warm Air, Hot Air, Hot/Cold Cycle, and Instant Cold Air.

To my pleasant surprise, this dryer packs a ton of power for its teensy size. The airspeed is solid at 70m/s, and the motor operates at 110,000RPM. It dried my waist-length hair in under five minutes which is an impressive feat considering I used the warm air mode.

I have rather thin hair, though, and so tested it on Kristy, who has very long and thick hair. It took just slightly longer to dry her abundant mane - a little over 10 minutes. Those with short hair will find that it’ll take as little as 40 seconds to go from wet to dry hair.

I also noticed that my hair felt smoother and looked shinier, and that’s thanks to the 350 million plasma ions that help reduce frizz and add shine.

Easy, Automatic Curling

Next, I tried curling my hair while damp with the two curling barrel attachments, each for clockwise and anti-clockwise curls. The magnetic attachment snaps into place with little effort and can be clocked with a twist.

After sectioning off the top half of my hair, I started curling the bottom section using the Hot Air mode and High Speed airflow. Holding a piece of hair close to the barrel, the hair automatically wrapped itself onto the barrel. After holding it in place for a few seconds, I switched to Instant Cold Air mode till the hair was completely cooled before releasing a bouncy curl!

The foldable design is particularly helpful for curling as it’s easier to hold it in its 90-degree shape while curling the front portion of hair, and as a vertical 180-degree shape to curl the hair at the back of the head.

As the Pocket Uni uses hot air to dry and curl the hair at the same time, it uses less heat than traditional heat tools which is less damaging on their hair especially for daily styling.

My hair is fine and limp, not the kind to hold a curl well, but with a little hairspray, my curls lasted pretty well and loosened into soft waves by the end of the day. For Kristy, who has more malleable hair, the curls remained perfectly coiled and voluminous till late at night.

Sleek, Frizz-Free Locks

Last but certainly not least is the Unfrizz Nozzle.

My hair tends to get puffy and frizzy when the humidity hits, and this styler is a boon for getting a sleek, neat look with minimal (*cough* zero) skills.

All that’s needed is to hold the nozzle close to the hair. Its unique air-flow pattern mimics the blow-drying technique that professional hair stylists use at the salon. Just by running through the hair, frizz and flyaways are tamed for smooth and straight strands.

Who It’s For

The Pocket Uni is an essential for frequent travellers who want a compact, fuss-free and convenient styling tool that won’t be a worry for the luggage weight limit.

Besides travelling, this would also be a handy tool to bring along for a post-gym hair refresh. Otherwise, it’s also great for the girlies who have limited space at home and want a small, all-in-one styling tool that’s also light and comfortable to use.

The Dreame Pocket Uni is available in four pretty colourways: Rose Gold, Titanium, Gray and Black.
