#1 Drink water

This is fairly obvious but easily overlooked! You may tend to avoid eating or drinking anything in case it worsens your food coma, but it's important to stay hydrated. Plus, water can help ease and speed up digestion so you'll feel better faster.

#2 Drink non-caffeinated tea

Sip on non-caffeinated teas to help ease bloating. Peppermint, cinnamon and chamomile tea can help flush out sodium and dilute excess stomach acid while ginger tea can help relieve nausea.

#3 Go for a walk

Instead of plonking down in your office chair right after eating, take a few minutes to brisk walk to aid your digestion. Some light exercise can also improve your mood and make you feel less miserable after having a heavy meal.

#4 Do a yoga twist

Yoga is the perfect activity to help cure a food coma. If you're in the middle of school or work, find a secluded spot to do some twisting yoga poses which will stimulate digestion.

#5 Drink coffee with little or no sugar

While coffee may not be good for digestion, it works well if you need to re-energise quickly.

To avoid food comas in the first place, try not to overeat or skip meals, resist the urge to eat deep fried foods and drink lots of water throughout the day!
