Read on to find out the best way to cover any pimple!

#1 Cleanse & moisturise

Makeup doesn't look good or last long on skin that isn't cleansed and moisturised. All skin types require a layer of moisturiser prior to makeup application, even oily skin!

The skin around a pimple can get dehydrated, which will only make concealer stick to the flaky skin - the horror! Make sure to be liberal with moisturiser and then gently massage away the dead skin.

#2 Get natural lighting

First things first, have a good makeup table setup ready. The best place to do your makeup is by the window where you have natural light, which is much harsher than artificial light and reveals every single little flaw.

If you want to get the look of truly flawless skin, natural light will give you a clear view of all your blemishes so you can make even the tiniest ones disappear with the magic of makeup!

#3 Use a magnifying mirror

Another step to your table setup is having a magnifying mirror which will make it much easier to cover up your blemishes. Try this super cute bunny mirror ($56.40) that has 7X magnification and LED lights!

#4 Use an ultra-high coverage concealer

If there is an area of your face that has multiple pimples, avoid slathering on a thick layer of foundation as that will easily look cakey and will also hide the parts of your skin that are blemish-free and beautiful!

For a more natural finish that lets your natural skin shine through, either skip foundation entirely or apply a thin layer of light foundation. Then, choose a high coverage concealer that matches your skin tone exactly and do spot coverage on each individual pimple. Some of our favourites are the Make Up For Ever Full Coverage Concealer ($56), 3CE Full Cover Concealer ($28) and Benefit Bo-ing Industrial Strength Conclealer ($39).

#5 Be targeted

Using your fingers to apply concealer may be convenient, but this will cover a wide area of your skin so it looks obvious you have concealer on that particular spot.

A discreet way to cover blemishes is to use a small precision eyeliner brush, like the Real Techniques Fine Liner Brush ($15), to dot concealer only on the pimple and the redness surrounding it. Start with a small amount and build up repeatedly if necessary. Be as targeted as possible and avoid covering any of the good skin around your pimple.

#6 Set with high coverage powder

Avoid translucent powder which can make pimples look shiny and white. Instead, set your concealer with a fluffy brush dipped in a high coverage powder foundation that matches your skin tone.

#7 Repeat steps 5 & 6 if needed

This nifty trick is for the huge cystic pimples that are a pain to cover up successfully. If your pimples are still peeking through, desperate times call for desperate measures. Apply concealer on top of the power and then set it again with more power, and then keep repeating if necessary. The contrast in the power and liquid or cream texture makes it stick together so you can build up coverage. For this method, it is important that you use a tiny amount of concealer and powder at a time to avoid making it look cakey.

#8 Set with a setting spray

A setting mist will help your makeup last the whole day and get rid of any cakeyness that may occur with the heaviness of the concealer and powder. You can find makeup setting sprays at Sephora!

Remember not to pick at your blemishes and create an open wound, or these tips won't work!
