Tea connoisseurs, this one's for you. Jing Studio is a new tea house hidden within the historic House of Tan Yeok Nee along Penang road.

It was created by Gaia Lifestyle Group, which is also behind the cocktail bar BAR KAP in the same building, as well as other dining concepts like Gyutan-Tan and The Black Pearl.

Many of us would have passed by the House of Tan Yeok Nee when driving into CTE or walking from Dhoby Gaut MRT Station, but it's likely that just a few know its significance. It's a 140-year-old historic gem and the only surviving one of Singapore's Four Grand Teochew Mansions.

It makes perfect sense that this traditional house is the home of Jing Studio, an upscale tea house that blends tradition with contemporary touches.

Distinctly luxe yet homey, the cosy space is lined with backlit shelves with traditional decor and tea-related ornaments on display. There are two small counters for dining in, but if the seats are full, customers can also enjoy their drinks while wandering around the house, admiring the architecture and exhibits.

Diners get a full view of the elegant tea preparation process. The Tea Master carefully brews, blends and decants the tea in large teapots and infusers at the open counter.

Jing Studio offers three groups of teas - Single Estate, Blended, and Herbal - using tea leaves sourced from around the world.

Those craving something simple and satisfying can go for the Single Estate Teas like Cold Bloom ($8), a smooth and mellow brew with hints of gardenia and melon. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Blended Teas like Coco Pulut Pu-erh ($8), a unique pulut hitam-inspired concoction with rich coconut and berry flavours. Finally, for something soothing, treat yourself to the Herbal Teas such as Herbal Nectar ($7), a comforting tea with a subtle herbal taste.

Jing Studio also offers desserts and other sweet treats by KOKO Patisserie.

Oolong Osmanthus Bloom ($10) has a pretty osmanthus crystal jelly sitting on a cocoa butter shell. Encased inside is fragrant oolong tea ganache and a tangy hawthorn centre. Meanwhile, Midnight Sesame Sand ($10) is an indulgent dark chocolate dessert with black sesame praline that adds a fun crunch and balances out the richness.

There's also Mochi ($3) on the menu! The Peanut Mochi was a delight with its silky smooth peanut filling and refined peanut flavour.

Another unexpected highlight was the Iced Gems ($6). These might look just like the nostalgic childhood snack, but they taste nothing like them, in a good way. The base is a delicious nutty and buttery almond cookie, and they're topped with melt-in-your-mouth meringue kisses that are not cloyingly sweet.
