Every Haunted House At USS Halloween Horror Nights 12: Ranked From Meh To Mindblowing

Any horror fan worth their salt (or their unwilling friends) will have probably given Universal Studios Singapore's Halloween Horror Nights a try at some point. But if this year happens to be your first run, or if you’re still on the fence about buying a ticket and want a peek at the attractions before making a decision, you’ve come to the right place!

We’ve braved all four haunted houses, three scare zones, and an immersive experience zone at this year’s edition, so you’ll know which spots are worth seeing even before even stepping foot onto the Sentosa Express. Cue the chills and squeals — here are all the spooky areas you can look out for at Halloween Horror Nights 12, ranked from nothing-to-write-home to I-wanna-go-home.

Nearly Family-Friendly - Nether-land

Picture this: you’re partying at a rave, the music’s lit, the drinks are flowing (thanks, Tiger Soju Infused Lager!), and everyone’s having the time of their undead lives. But wait, what’s that lurking in the shadows? Oh yeah, it’s a giant eyeball monster with better dance moves than you.

Welcome to Nether-land, where the beats are to die for and the party never stops. Expect plenty of green-tinted mist, hypnotic voodoo vibes, neon lights, and undead creatures who could probably qualify as extras on the set of Footloose.

Nether-land is heavy on the EDM and light on the terror, and the immersive energy of the place will have you feeling like you’ve partied too long in the underworld. It’s fun, it’s trippy, and even though the guests at this rave are kind of sus, they still know how to throw a killer party.

Just Passing Through - The Lost Kampung and Vampire Alley

While haunted houses typically steal the show at Halloween Horror Nights, the scare zones are where you'll feel that constant, creeping sense of danger as you move from one area to the next. This year, The Lost Kampung and Vampire Alley are two of the scare zones to try, though they aren’t quite as bone-chilling as we were hoping for.

The Lost Kampung serves major ‘get out while you can’ energy with cursed items, evil entities, and vengeful spirits all thrown together in one haunted village that nobody asked to visit. The eerie atmosphere and cultural nods definitely deserve praise, with flickering lamps, foggy paths, and distant, unsettling sounds creating a sense of isolation that’s hard to shake off.

However, those who have visited previous Halloween Horror Nights may find the walk a bit too familiar. In fact, some parts of the set look nearly identical to last year’s The Cursed Kiramam Scare Zone, leaving us with more deja vu than excitement.

FYI: If supernatural beings from Southeast Asian folklore like Pontianaks and Pocongs make your skin crawl, we’re sorry to say that this ranking does not apply — it’s absolutely gonna be your nightmare fuel.

Then we have Vampire Alley, which is exactly what it sounds like. Ever wanted to take a stroll down a shady alley at 2 a.m. and accidentally become the main course at a vampire buffet? No? Well, too bad because that’s exactly what’s happening here.

While the concept is promising, the pacing is a bit on the slow side and visitors will encounter quite a few overused haunted house tropes, including oversized meat/blood fridges, locked-up NPCs asking for help, and dark, foggy corners with random corpses.

The occasional vampire jump scare did catch us off guard, but we were able to walk through this zone without breaking too much of a sweat.

It also seems that the vibes are less Twilight and more The Walking Dead, since most of these bloodsuckers seem to be of the ragged, impoverished sort. Welcome to immortality, I guess?

Worth The Wait - Singapore’s Most Haunted: The Killings & Viper Lounge

If you’re obsessed with paranormal true crime and abandoned sites, Singapore’s Most Haunted: The Killings is right up your haunted alley. Walk past these eerie stone lions, and BAM, you're suddenly in the middle of one of Singapore’s most haunted houses. Restless spirits? Check. Sinister ghost killers? Double check.

Modelled on real-life ‘haunted’ locations in Singapore (yes, we’re looking at you, Pasir Ris Red House and Istana Woodneuk), each room offers a snapshot of some chilling urban horror, complete with horrifying imagery and sinister noises to keep you constantly on edge. It’s the kind of slow-burn horror that builds over time, with each scene more disturbing than the last.

We found ourselves lingering in some areas, drawn in by the eerie realism of the sets. All in all, if you’ve got a thing for local ghost stories and can’t resist a good ‘based on true events’ scare, this one is going to be a must-visit spot.

On the flip side, Viper Lounge takes the 'VIP' in their name seriously, transporting visitors to the stunningly glamorous underworld of vampire lore. This immersive experience gives you behind-the-scenes access to a haunted speakeasy bar run by The Elders, where high-fashion vamps gather to sip on more than cocktails.

As huge fans of romantic vampire fiction, we were totally blown away by the on-brand food and drink menus, photo spots, and nocturnal inhabitants (think pale characters with bloodshot eyes decked out in gothic garb straight from a fantasy film).

From the moment you step inside, you’ll feel like you’ve stumbled into a scene straight out of Interview with the Vampire (minus Brad Pitt, unfortunately). Order yourself a drink, chill with some bloodthirsty creatures under the blood-red lighting, and try not to end up as their next meal.

Just remember, entry is not included in your Halloween Horror Nights ticket, so plan ahead and purchase it separately if you want to live (or die) this fantasy.

Stars Of The Show - Under the Castle By Team Wang Design and Netflix’s Sweet Home

Let’s get straight to the point: Under The Castle by Team Wang Design is chef’s kiss. This haunted house is straight-up gothic royalty. A cursed castle, dark magic, and a royal family that met a tragic (and terrifying) end? Sounds like a spooktacular time indeed. The story is that dozens of villagers entered this place and… well, no one’s seen them since.

The decaying castle walls, the dim lighting, the eerie inhabitants — everything is just dripping with detail, making it feel like you’ve stepped into a dark fairytale or a Castlevania level.

The scares are subtle but potent, and the atmosphere is so immersive and sets are so intensely scenic that you’ll want to take it all in, even if you’re secretly scared out of your mind.

And then there’s Sweet Home, the literal monster of this Halloween Horror Nights. Based on the hit Korean horror series, this haunted house pulls you into the grotesque world of once-human monsters who are out for blood.

The set design is freakishly accurate, with every twisted creature and dark hallway matching the scenes from the show. You’ll find yourself wandering the creepy, dystopian hallways filled with grotesque once-human monsters, and trust me, they are NOT here for a casual chat.

If you’re a fan of the series (or even if you aren’t), prepare for a shockingly good time. The scare actors at this haunted house also really impressed us with their outstanding SFX makeup and using Korean phrases from the show.

Those who are looking to maximise their fear-to-fun ratio should absolutely prioritise these two haunted houses to get the most out of their ticket. The storytelling, atmosphere, and sheer level of detail make them some of the most exciting attractions of the night!

High Blood Pressure Warning - Cursed Scrolls: Dynasty of Darkness

Brace yourselves, because Cursed Scrolls: Dynasty of Darkness is an absolutely intense, chaotic, WHY-am-I-here experience. A Qing dynasty scroll master has unleashed Chinese hopping vampires, and they’re coming for you.

The gruesome visuals and atmospheric terror make this one feel like you’re trapped in a nightmare that just keeps getting worse. Oh, and did I mention the fox demons stalking you? Yeah, good luck with that.

Before entry, visitors are given unique 3D glasses that make the effects look even more insane, easily helping this haunted house claim the title of Greatest Sensory Overload of the Night.

Don’t expect to see any of the typical Chinese-inspired haunts — the set designers really went all-out on trippy, creative visuals that make everything feel uncomfortably close, while the disorienting layout has you constantly wondering where the next scare is going to come from.

Plus, crazy wind and sound effects and even unexpected flooring? A surefire recipe for heart palpitations.

Every twist and turn leaves no room for comfort and reveals something more mindblowing than the last, so by the time we exited, we were absolutely breathless. Not feeling too confident? Bring a friend or five, because you’ll need some emotional support to get through this one.

Universal Studios Singapore Halloween Horror Nights 12 will run from now to 2 November 2024. Tickets are priced at $90 for peak nights and $80 for non-peak nights. Book your tickets here.
