How I Soothed My Itchy Scalp & Revived My Dry Hair

No stranger to the occasional bad hair day, I’ve always relied heavily on an assortment of products to look more presentable. Dry shampoo came to the rescue for concealing my oily scalp, hairspray was the go-to for injecting volume into my locks, and shine serums dutifully tamed my frazzled ends. Lately, Singapore’s unrelenting heat has intensified my hair woes and I’ve come to realise that these products don’t address the root cause of my problems, they only help to mask their symptoms.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that by midday, the hair at the top of my head is usually slicked with oil and my scalp becomes itchy. So you can imagine how I jumped at the opportunity to try out the hair tonic by YANAGIYA, a trusted Japanese brand with over 400 years of history.

Trust me when I say that this tonic has been a game-changer for me. With regular use, it helps to reduce itchiness and dandruff, while also moisturising my scalp. The best part is that it even promotes hair growth, which I need because I have thinning hair at the sides of my head. I use it once a day, typically after my evening shower. After all, consistency is key when it comes to scalp care and I want to ensure that my hair stays young, healthy, and strong.

There are also three iterations of the product, which differ only by their scents! If you have a penchant for fruity scents like me, the citrus version will be right up your alley.

After trying and being impressed by the hair tonic, I decided to reach for YANAGIYA’s Apricot Oil as well. Even though I have an oily scalp, the ends of my hair are really dry — dyeing and perming my hair took a toll on it. I noticed that after weeks of applying the product, I have fewer split ends and I no longer struggle to tame the frizz. That’s because the oil was extracted from natural apricot seeds and contains oleic acid as well as minerals that easily penetrate the hair.

Since the formula is multi-purpose and doesn’t feel greasy, I also use it to moisturise my body and nail cuticles — it’s extremely handy when I go on vacations! Most importantly, this oil helps to reduce heat damage from hairdryers, which is a tool that I use fairly frequently.

So, if you're tired of dealing with an itchy scalp and dry, damaged hair, I highly recommend adding YANAGIYA’s products to your daily beauty routine! Both the Hair Tonic and Apricot Oil can be easily found in stores at Watsons, Welcia BHG, NTUC, Meidiya, and Don Don Donki.
