When most Singaporeans visit a cafe, there are expectations for good — or at least decent — customer service. After all, nobody wants to feel ignored or insulted while enjoying a delicious meal... or do they? SubaToki Cafe, a pop-up diner where customers are served by tsundere maids and staff, would beg to disagree.

Those who consume popular media, especially anime, would be aware that the tsundere is an extremely popular trope. These characters initially come off as cold and even rude to those who meet them, but secretly has a warm and caring personality that they struggle to suppress. Now it is possible to interact with a tsundere in reality, right here in Singapore!

At SubaToki Cafe, the staff dress in elaborate maid costumes à la Japanese maid cafes and act in a tsundere manner while serving diners. Especially enthusiastic guests can even look forward to being dished out 'punishments' such as scoldings, forehead flicks and slaps on their hands.

To make things even more interactive for visitors, the cafe features a lineup of staff who have different tsundere personalities. Customers will have to go down to experience it for themselves to get to know each of them!
