Get A Taste Of Japan When You Visit This Food Fair At Paya Lebar
Every summer, hanabi matsuri (fireworks festivals) are held across Japan — it is a longstanding tradition that began as a way of warding off evil spirits. While the main attraction is the fireworks display, other elements contribute to the lively and celebratory atmosphere: the streets are typically lined with food vendors as well as game stalls and the locals in attendance get dressed in their yukata (a casual version of the kimono).
If you don’t have any plans to travel to Japan, the next best thing you can do is to indulge in authentic Japanese cuisine right here in Singapore! From now till 25 June, you can head over to SingPost Centre at Paya Lebar for Isetan’s Hanabi Matsuri Fair, where you’ll find the specialities — street food, sweets, snacks, and beverages — from 15 different prefectures in Japan. Here are some highlights that you should definitely check out:

And of course, generous servings of a special okonomiyaki sauce and kewpie mayonnaise are guaranteed.

If you’re seeking instant gratification, just let the chef know and they can grill the meat on the spot for you. The average wait is between 15 to 20 minutes but you can take the time to check out the other stalls in the fair!
#3 Pork Cutlet Sandwich from Momiji Kyoto Cafe
$10 | Representing the Kyoto prefecture

Momiji Kyoto Cafe is the brainchild of renowned chef Teppei Yamashita and the most mouth-watering offering at the stall is their pork cutlet sandwich. It’s hard to say no to a perfectly breaded — and tender — pork cutlet that is nestled between slices of freshly baked bread.
#4 Hyoshiro Dashi (Flying Fish Soup Stock) from Ajino Hyoshiro
$35 | Representing the Fukuoka prefecture

This easy-to-use dashi (soup stock) packet contains six ingredients — flying fish, bonitos, mackerels, sardines, shiitake mushrooms, and kelp — that promise a hearty broth. Alternatively, you can cut the packet open and use its contents to spice up your stir-fried noodles and vegetables.
#5 Mont Blanc from Whitetree
$9 | Representing the Tokyo prefecture

Even though mont blanc originated in France, the Japanese have since adapted the confection and made it their very own. The soft sponge cake base perfectly complements the rich cream toppings, which are available in matcha, strawberry, and other delectable flavours.
