BHC Chicken Review: Korea's Top Fried Chicken Chain Is Now In Singapore With Complimentary Cheese Balls
Having just overindulged at BHC Chicken in Seoul last month, the taste of the Korean fried chicken chain's Bburinkle chicken and cheese balls is still nice and fresh in my memory - all the better to compare it with Singapore's first BHC Chicken outlet!
Slated to open on 26 April, BHC Chicken at Marina Square will have an extensive menu with different fried chicken flavours, cheese balls, and even main dishes from Korean-style stews to congee.
P.S. While you're in Marina Square, pick up a drink at luckin coffee for $0.99. The ongoing promotion is available for first-time customers!
The fried chicken is available in three options: Whole, Wings and Boneless. The Singapore outlet won't have an option for half flavours, but on the plus side, there will be new chicken flavours tailored to locals' tastes.
I went straight in for the Bburinkle (Whole: $31.90) with meh expectations as the one in Korea was overloaded with so much cheese powder that it lost its crisp and became a little jelak after the first few bites.

Thankfully, the Singapore edition had just the right amount of seasoning leaving the skin crispy. And while the seasoning in the Seoul outlet had a high ratio of cheese to onion & garlic, this rendition had a far more palatable balance of flavours. It's served with a Bburing Dip for a touch of sweetness.
The Bburinkle will likely be a crowd-favourite, but Macho King (Whole: $31.90) takes the top spot for me. This mildly spicy fried chicken was coated in an addictive aged soy sauce and honey-based oriental sauce, giving it a perfect sweet and savoury mix that wasn't too heavy or salty.

I also enjoyed Hot Retro (Whole: $29.90), which had an exceptional crunch and a barely there, pepper-like spiciness that even kids could handle.

Fun flavours aside, the best thing about BHC Chicken's fried chicken was its light batter and non-greasy coating so it didn't leave me with that icky and tired feeling even after gorging myself. The chicken was neither dry nor bursting with juiciness, but just a satisfying level of tenderness. It's safe to say the standard and flavours are pretty much the same as the outlets in Korea!
Other fried chicken flavours are Red King (hot chilli peppers & garlic), Gold King (soy sauce, sweet honey & garlic) and Chi-Pongdang (shrimp & garlic flakes).
But arguably the main stars at BHC Chicken are the Korean-style main dishes and sides.
To my delight, the Cheese Balls ($5.90 for 5pcs) were identical to the ones in Korea, with a slightly chewy exterior and salty, stretchy cheese inside.

The hearty dishes and sides like Bburing Sotteok ($5.90 for 2pcs), Kimchi Fried Rice ($9.90) and Spicy Rabokki ($12.90) are also worth a try.

Complete the chimaek experience with Beer ($6.90/can) or switch things up with Soju ($17.90 - $19.90) and Rice Wine ($19.90). For non-alcoholic drinks, there are also some options to get the back-in-Korea feels like Paldo Sik Hye ($3) and Bong Bong Grape Juice ($3).
