Crazy cat lady who loves afternoon tea, kawaii Japanese fashion, and all things Sanrio.

It's a mixed bag when it comes to cat cafes; If you're lucky, you'll encounter a cuddlebug, but due to their inherent nature, there's also a high chance that the felines there will either be found napping, or not want to be touched by strangers during your visit.  In fact, some might find it more fulfilling to play with the cats at their void deck, due to the familiarity and lack of entrance fees.

Not all cat cafes are made equal, though. Truly Dolls Cattery, home to Singapore’s first Ragdoll-only cat cafe experience, offers quite a different encounter than one might expect - with pretty pedigree kitties that are fluffier and more affectionate than the usual tabby. If you're a cat-lover with a penchant for special breeds that are more docile, here's where you'd want to be for your next outing.

P.S.: If you're more of a dog person, check out What The Pug, Singapore's first pug petting cafe.

We’d first like to start off by clarifying that we don’t mean that a particular breed of cat is “better” than others, or that regular tabbies are inferior to pedigree ones. However, it’s not every day that you get to be up close and personal with more exotic varieties, and with Ragdolls specially bred for their beautiful colouring, lush coats, and friendly dog-like personalities, interacting with one can be very different from attempting to play with stray neighbourhood cats.

Located a short walk from Outram Park MRT station, Truly Dolls is first and foremost a cattery registered under the Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA), with their fluffy cuties all descended from top pedigree lines. Yup, All the kitties you see here have pedigree status, and are DNA tested to ensure that they don’t have diseases such as FIV, FELV, HCM, and PKD.

They are also fully-vaccinated with 2 years of health guaranteed against genetic disorders, so potential paw-rents needn’t worry about their new babies carrying any medical issues.

Truly Dolls’ Catxperience is a means for the cats to be socialised before heading off to their forever homes, and also gives interested parties a chance to learn more about Ragdolls and general cat care in person.

The cattery where the cats rest is on the second floor of a shophouse unit, while the play area which welcomes hooman visitors occupies the third floor.

I’ve been to multiple cat cafes over the years and was bracing myself for that familiar not-so-pleasant whiff, but surprisingly, no strong stench of cat poop or pee hit me when I reached the top floor - a clear indication of great hygiene levels. In fact, there are multiple litter boxes lined up in a row so that the cats don’t have to get territorial over their toilet spaces, and this area was visibly clean and dry.

It was also heartening to see that the cats had more than enough space to run around, along with climbing structures like cat trees, hidey holes, and even mini beds - everything a well-pampered cat could ever need.

After we sat down, the friendly staff introduced the various cats and shared more about their individual quirks. True of their species, the gorgeous Ragdolls were super well-natured and active, with no hissing, swatting, or scratching. They seemed very comfortable with the human touch, and I even had some of them climb onto my lap for cuddles!

Another thing that stood out was how soft and lush all the cats’ fur was, and this is because they’re all fed with the best high-nutrition wet food as well as supplements.

If you need help “bribing” the cats over to you, you can purchase a small bowl of cat treats from the staff at $2.

Just FYI: Most if not all the kittens you'll meet on-site are already sold, and are waiting to move into their forever homes. If you've fallen hopelessly in love, you can always ask to be placed on Truly Dolls' waiting list, and the owners will contact you once a new litter is up for reservations and purchase.

A session at Truly Dolls costs $28 per person per hour, and comes with a complimentary drink. There’s also a $38 option which comes with a free dessert on top of the beverage. We opted for the latter and were treated to bottled fruit teas and artisanal pastries from Dolc Patisserie next door.

At present, Truly Dolls’ Catxperience cat cafe is only available on weekends. Spaces are limited for each session so as to avoid stressing the cats out, so make sure you have a prior reservation, bookable via their WhatsApp number or Instagram page @trulydollsg.
