Crazy cat lady who loves afternoon tea, kawaii Japanese fashion, and all things Sanrio.

We’re all familiar with the concept of cat cafes, which charge patrons an entry fee to interact with felines for a fixed period of time. While there has been much debate about such places and whether they’re ethical or otherwise, that’s far from the case with the newly-opened Cat Paradise - Singapore’s first cageless cat adoption centre that lets you play with kitties from just $15.

Located just a minute’s walk from Jalan Besar MRT station, Cat Paradise is the first of its kind in Singapore. Animal shelters often don’t let you interact with their cats at all, and if you’ve ever been to adoption drives, you’ll see that most of the animals are kept within the four walls of their cages. On the flip side, cat cafes don’t put their furry friends up for adoption - they’re basically permanent full-time staff that can’t be “bought out”.

However, Cat Paradise offers the best of both worlds, so both serious potential adopters, as well as cat-lovers who may not necessarily be ready to have a pet of their own, can get up close and personal with these beauties and learn more about them. You might even get to meet little kittens, depending on the rescue cats available at your time of visit.

At a glance, the premises are spacious enough for the cats to run around comfortably, with plenty of cosy beds, teepee tents, and climbing structures for the adorable creatures to enjoy. Humans can choose to sit on the floor with cushions strewn across a fluffy fur rug, or on one of the many chairs available.

The cats at Cat Paradise are properly socialised before they get to meet humans, so they’ll be comfortable with your presence and be less prone to throwing hissy fits or hiding in a corner. In fact, your entry fee will entitle you to treats which you can “bribe” the cats with. Of course, these will be given in moderation to prevent overeating.

Potential adopters will also be relieved to know that all the cats undergo prior health checks to ensure that they are FELV/FIV negative. They’re also vaccinated, sterilised, microchipped, de-flead and dewormed, so you won’t have to foot the cost of these medical expenses before welcoming them into your home.

It’s said that the cats here love playing with their teaser toys, so grab one of the many available, wave it around, and watch the kitties zoom across the play area!

Unlike dogs, who are generally jumpier and more excitable, cats don’t immediately go in for cuddles with strangers. But have some patience, show them some love, and they might even warm up to you enough to climb on your lap!

Another plus point at Cat Paradise: Hourly sessions are capped at 6 pax so that visitors won’t have to fight for the felines' attention. At the same time, with fewer people around, the cats will feel more relaxed and won’t get overwhelmed by all the buzz surrounding them, making it a more pleasant experience for all.

Each 1-hour session costs $15, and earnings will go to the upkeep of the centre as well as the cats’ daily meals and other cat care expenses. Currently, Cat Paradise is having a 4 for 3 promotion, where a group of 4 persons get to pay just $45 in total ($11.25 each).

Can’t get enough? Opt for the $30 full-day weekday pass to spend as long as you want in this feline haven! The longer you stay, the higher your chances of forming a bond with the kitties and who knows - you might just meet one that’ll change your life furever.
