I’m quite the creature of habit - when it comes to beauty products, I tend to stick to what I’m familiar with since I already know that it works for me. As such, I don’t actively seek out new items to change up my existing routine, and I’m not one who’d typically rush to be the first to snap up the latest launches from beauty retailers each time they drop. Plus, I’m pretty wary about those that are full of harsh chemicals which might do more harm than good.

However, I recently had the luck of coming across American hair care brand Briogeo Superfoods and their products, especially the conditioner, have been quite the game-changer for me. Here’s a review!

I was initially drawn to these Briogeo Superfoods products because of their unique packaging that closely resemble juice cleanse bottles, and was also attracted to the “no harsh sulphates, no silicones, no parabens” line on the front label. Turning the bottles around, it was even more pleasing to see that the ingredient lists are chock full of natural and plant-derived ingredients, and being vegan and cruelty-free was an added bonus.

What I had on hand was the Mango + Cherry Balancing range, which is said to be able to balance oil production - just what I needed for my quick-to-grease-up locks. It’s worth noting that the Mango + Cherry Balancing Shampoo is formulated with 93% naturally-derived ingredients, while the Mango + Cherry Balancing Conditioner is formulated with 96% of such goodness.

I go by the double cleanse method, so I’ve been using this shampoo before rinsing it off and shampooing with a different brand. Certain shampoos for oily scalp tend to make my tresses dry after a while, but this one has been able to strip off excess grease and build-up without drying out my hair - probably thanks to the various fruit extracts and vitamins it contains. I also noticed that my easily irritated scalp has been calmer and less itchy despite the hot weather.

The one item I must absolutely sing praises of is the conditioner. With a thick, smoothie-like consistency - and a super invigorating, fruity fragrance to match - just a little blob of this goes a long way. I’d even say it has the efficacy of a hair mask instead of a regular conditioner; In fact, I haven’t been relying on hair masks for additional hydration ever since I started using this, and it’s definitely going down on my list of holy grail hair care items to re-buy once my current supply runs out.

My only gripe is that because the conditioner is so thick, it’s difficult to squeeze it out of the bottle, but storing it with the bottle upside down helps.

Other variations include the Banana + Coconut Nourishing range for dull and dry hair, as well as the Matcha + Apple Replenishing range for damaged tresses with split ends and those suffering from hair loss.
