The news of Ranveer playing the role of Kapil Dev first came out two years ago. There were rumours that Deepika Padukone will play his wife in the film, especially after the two tied the knot in November last year.
Ranveer revealed the happy news to his fans on Instagram by announcing her entry in the movie. He shared a picture of himself, Deepika with film's director Kabir Khan and captioned, "Who better to play My Wifey than My Wifey?! ?❤️@deepikapadukone plays Romi Dev in @83thefilm !!! ??? Genius casting courtesy @kabirkhankk ??? #83squad"
Deepika Padukone, wifey of Ranveer Singh has joined the cast of '83 and is all set to play Kapil Dev's wife, Romi Dev in the movie.
Ranveer Singh is known to go to any extent to step into the shoes of the character he's playing in the film. The actor this time decided to stay away from his love Deepika and went to Delhi to stay with cricketer Kapil Dev for 10 days.
A source close to him quoted," He wants to see, live and breathe Kapil before he starts shooting." The actor also said in a statement," I am looking forward to spending more time with Kapil Sir. He is kind, generous, warm and funny. I had a memorable two days with him in Dharamshala. I'm going to spend more time with him in Delhi to learn more about him."
He also added," It's a first of its kind exercise in my acting process where I'll be studying the man himself in the flesh for my onscreen portrayal of him. I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to learn about life from a true legend."

On a celebratory note, Deepika took her Instagram to share a cute and romantic birthday wish for him.
