While on a quest to highlight more talented local artists and their works, we found Zovin, a SUTD undergraduate who does customisable kicks.
Read on to find out more!
Zovin has always had passion for drawing and is one of those guys you would often see in school doodling all over his textbooks and notebooks.
He chanced upon YouTubers such as Charlie Liang and MARKO (known for their unique customisation designs) while serving NS, and decided to get creative by customising his own sneakers. The designs caught his friend's eye, which gave him the idea to turn his hobby into a humble business.
Fun fact: Zovin's Instagram-based business is named Double Take in hopes of creating designs so amazing that passersby have to take a second look!
The mahjong-themed sneakers are arguably one of Zovin's most notable designs, with everything drawn and painted by hand.
Mahjong junkies would know that the design of each tile is extremely intricate so it's certainly not an easy feat to replicate. But look at the tiny circles adorning the Swoosh and realistic-looking animal tiles - very impressive!
Zovin is also well-versed in anime designs so if you are a diehard fan of a certain series, rest assured that he will be able to deliver.
Of course not forgetting the K-pop fans too, Zovin can draw anything K-pop related, such as the BT21 characters.
But if you are looking to zhng your sneakers with extra cuteness, here are some of Zovin's designs that will surely tickle your fancy:
Zovin uses acrylic paint, followed by applying a sealant and layer of non-wet spray. The entire customisation process typically takes about two to three weeks - from having a discussion on the design, to sending the customer a digital mockup and completing the order.
Prices for designs range from $80 to $200. Zovin will help to purchase a new pair of sneakers to your size (customer bears the cost) or you can choose to provide him with your own sneakers as long as they are brand new.
Send him a message via Instagram here to customise a pair of kicks!
