First Look: Hello Kitty-Themed Sakura Matsuri 2021 At Gardens By The Bay Singapore
More than ever, Singaporeans are searching for ways to figuratively transport themselves to countries abroad without leaving the country, and Gardens by the Bay’s annual Sakura Matsuri at the Flower Dome can’t be more timely. This year’s hanami experience right here in Singapore comes with an additional kawaii twist - in the form of a Hello Kitty theme, a first for the floral exhibition.

Gardens by the Bay’s Sakura Matsuri 2021 just opened its doors to the public on 1 March. Here’s a first peek into the exhibition with some photos of the dreamy Hello Kitty-themed setup!

As with previous years’ Sakura Matsuri events, this latest edition features cascading sprigs of peach and cherry blossom flowers in soft shades of pink and white.

Defining elements like red torii gates, Japanese paper parasols, and rickshaws will also be present.

These will be standing proud alongside various Hello Kitty sculptures, including one that’s made to look like a giant manicured plant in a zen garden. See how many times you can find her appearing across the whole exhibition!

There will also be a mini stage area with Hello Kitty in the middle of a Japanese tea ceremony, as well as a furoshiki picnic corner where you’ll learn more about the art of Japanese cloth wrapping.

If Gardens by the Bay manages to import larger cherry trees from Europe - despite Covid-19 supply challenges - you can look forward to a more extravagant sakura display later on, as well as an extended opening period of the exhibition.
