Concrete Sink Bathroom Trend: 7 Different Styles To Make Your HDB Bathroom Extra Aesthetic

Made popular by the industrial decor craze that was all the rage a few years back, concrete is a material that’s thought of as rugged and grey with an unfinished texture - something you’d expect to find in a bachelor pad. But that’s not always the case, because it can also come in bright hues and a smooth finish, suitable for modern homes that aren’t part of the “refurbished warehouse” bandwagon.

Our latest obsession - and what’s soon to become the next bathroom trend - is concrete sinks. Able to create a fresh focal point in your toilet, these wash basins are worlds apart from the standard porcelain ones we grew up with in our parents’ HDBs.

We got in on the concrete sink trend after chancing upon Kast Concrete Basins, a UK-based company that specialises in aesthetically-pleasing concrete sinks. According to their Instagram page, they ship worldwide, so you can place an order with them for either a pre-made or customised design, and get it sent over to Singapore for your HDB or BTO renovation. Here are some of their designs for home inspo.

- Bucket sinks -

These bucket sinks are small and wall-mounted, perfect for those with tiny HDB bathrooms. Though petite, they compensate with good depth, allowing for minimal spillage.

A high back panel also prevents water from splashing onto your wall tiles and causing long-term wear-and-tear, while gold finishes balance out the colourful hues and create an overall look that’s classy and contemporary.

- Bowl sinks -

Because of their structure, round bowl sinks are usually mounted on top of a vanity counter.

They’re an easy choice if your toilet only has space for a mini-sized counter, or if you’d like to use more of the counter's surface area for bath products, plants, and other decor.

- Textured sinks -

An otherwise plain sink can be given added pizzazz with unique texturing carved along the sides. Horizontal stripes work well for when you want to create the illusion of a longer sink, while vertical stripes add a touch of cuteness to smaller ones. There are also options with diagonal stripes, which go well with herringbone tiles.

- Oval sinks -

An oval sink automatically gives your bathroom a luxe appearance, much like that of a hotel’s.

The larger capacity gives you room to hand-wash clothes and other items without accidentally splashing water all over the place, thus reducing the need for extra clean-ups.

- Long rectangular sinks -

If the space and layout of your bathroom permits, you can go for a longer rectangular sink which gives you space to lay out all your bathroom essentials within easy reach - all without having to install an additional vanity cabinet. This helps reduce potential visual clutter, which is great for those going for a minimalist theme.

- Circular -

Circle sinks help break the monotony of all the straight 90-degree edges in your bathroom found in other fixtures like cupboards, shower screens, and storage racks.

- Square -

These compact square sinks get the job done and look great both mounted on the wall and on a countertop. Despite their small size, they, too, can serve as a focal point when you make use of contrasting colours. Otherwise, having a seamless monochromatic look works just as well, if you'd like to keep everything simple and clean-looking.
