Sad news: After years over $2 nett pricing, Daiso Singapore is soon to charge GST on all purchases from 1 May 2022. But the silver lining is that they're giving us something new to look forward to - a brand new home and lifestyle concept store, Standard Products. In true Japanese style, this store will be full of all things minimalist and aesthetically-pleasing, similar to Muji, but with more wallet-friendly prices.

Standard Products by Daiso was first launched in Japan in 2021, and their Tokyo flagship outlet was met with much hype, largely due to their aesthetically-pleasing offerings at wallet-friendly prices; Think a more affordable version of Muji.

In Japan, the prices of items at Standard Products are said to average 300 yen to 500 yen ($3.30 to $5.40), but can go up to 1,000 yen ($10.73). This is still a fraction of the cost of Muji’s items!

Quality-wise, they’re said to be slightly more premium than Daiso’s regular range. Perhaps this might possibly mean that more items will be made in Japan itself, compared to Daiso’s products, a good portion of which are made in China. One can also expect better materials used.
